Analysts predict release of Dr Shakil Afridi like Raymond Davis
GHADAAR-I-AZAM:LANAT ON AFRIDI PUSHTUNS FOR PRODUCING SUCH A NUTFAA
Political and defence analysts in Pakistan are showing concerns that US agent Dr Shakil Afridi, who facilitated Abbottabad raid, might be released like Raymond Davis.
Brig (retd) Mehmood Shah, a defence analyst, said that case should not be lodged against Afridi under as it did not carry death penalty.
He says ordinary court should hear the case where at least he should be handed down death sentence. Shah said the trial indicate a conspiracy that ended up with the release of Raymond Davis who had killed two Pakistani youths last year.
Former military Attaché in Pakistani embassy at Kabul Brig (retd) Muhammad Saad said Afridi committed crime in Abbottabad and hearing was conducted in tribal areas. “This makes no sense,” he said and added it seemed the government had succumbed to US pressure and Dr Afridi would soon be released and sent to US. He said the convicted Dr Afridi would file an appeal in Peshawar High Court and would be released for want of evidence.
Aminur Rehman, former Peshawar High Court Bar Association, was of the view that the US agent would be released soon.
