ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Supreme Court has convicted Pakistan’s prime minister of contempt for refusing to reopen an old corruption case against the president.
But the court said Thursday the sentence against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would only stand until the judges left the chamber. That spares him a spell in prison.
The verdict was a symbolic move against Gilani, but still means problems for him because has been convicted in a court.
That means could mean he could face disqualification in the weeks or months to come.
