He keeps harping the same tune, even, though some Indian generals have reluctantly accepted it as a defeat of Indian Army. But, this coward leaves no opportunity to bad mouth Kargil victory. Nawaz Sharif is an enemy of Pakistan. He puts his own interests above national interests. He felt threatened by Pakistan Army’s spectacular victory in Kargil War.
Cowardly, Kashmiri turncoat Nawaz Sharif was shocked by success of Pakistan;s Mujahedin of FCNA, who caused 3000 Indian Army Casualties, including the loss of two planes, death of one IAF Pilot and capture of Indian Pilot Lt.Nachikita by Pak Army. Being a US CIA Agent Nwaz was afraid that Musharraf and the Army would get all the glory, he ran to his patron President Clinton.
He defended his action to launch the operation in Kargil in the wake of fresh allegations that he masterminded the intrusions.
Referring to Lt Gen (retired) Shahid Aziz’s allegations that he had kept other military commanders in the dark about the operation, Musharraf said, “Telling everyone about it was not necessary at all”.
He claimed Aziz had an “imbalanced personality” and had resorted to character assassination by making these accusations.
“We lost the Kargil war, which was a big success militarily, because of (then premier) Nawaz Sharif…If he had not visited the US, we would have conquered 300 square miles of India,” Musharraf said in an interview with Express News channel.
Though Pakistan had initially claimed mujahideen were responsible for occupying strategic heights along the Line of Control in early 1999, Musharraf later revealed in his autobiography ‘In The Line Of Fire’ that regular Army troops had participated in the operation.
But Musharraf claimed the action in Kargil was a “localised” operation and not a major operation.
“Kargil was just one of many sectors under a Major General stationed in Gilgit, (who was) in charge of the area. Exchange of fire was routine there,” he claimed. Musharraf said he would not go so far as to accuse former premier Nawaz Sharif of betrayal but his decision to withdraw from Kargil was a mistake.
“Nawaz lost a political front which we had won militarily,” he claimed.
The former general, who has been living in self-exile outside Pakistan since 2009, said the “prime consideration” for actions like the Kargil operation is security and secrecy.
“So the Army leadership decides who is to be informed and when. As the operation progressed and the proper time arrived, a briefing of the corps commanders was held,” he said.
Musharraf said he was “really astonished” that Aziz was writing about the events 10 years later.
Blaming the nation at this juncture, as Aziz had done, seems to be “part of a conspiracy”, he claimed.
“It was a tactical action that had a strategic importance in which no more than a few hundred persons were involved, but which engaged thousands on the Indian side and was of tremendous importance,” he claimed.
Musharraf justified Pakistani casualties in the conflict, claiming the country lost only 270 men against India’s 1,600 soldiers.
India eventually decided, after examining the pros and cons of widening the conflict across the Line of Control (LoC) or even across the international border, on a strategy of containment within the narrower objective of regaining the Kargil heights. This narrower framework meant higher casualties on the Indian side because of the difficulty of traversing slopes against dug-in defenders where the terrain offers no cover.
New Delhi calculated that it does have the political will and military morale, despite the heavy casualties, and can sustain the cost in human and material terms. A near-consensus domestically and the willingness of the Indian military command to accept constraints allowed India to continue with an operation in which it suffered disproportionately heavy casualties.
With regard to Pakistan, the intriguing question is whether the Kargil heights seizure was part of the normal stepping up of guerrilla activity during summer, or whether it had more ambitious objectives. If it were the former, little can be added, except to mention in passing a failure of Indian intelligence. The guerrillas’ presence was only discovered by accident when two Indian army patrols happened to spot them. The true extent of the guerrilla presence did not sink in until the Indian army had carried out an aerial survey of the area, which revealed that between 400 to 700 guerrillas had seized the heights. This could have put them in a position in any future war to threaten the sole overland logistics link with the Indian forces deployed in Siachen, i.e. the Srinagar-Drass-Kargil-Leh road.
But the Kargil seizure could have other strategic objectives with military, political and diplomatic dimensions. Militarily, if the seizure could be maintained for a reasonable period of time and at least until winter sets in, it could open up possibilities of forcing either an Indian withdrawal from Siachen, or a trade-off between the Kargil heights and the Siachen Glacier.
Politically, it could reflect the impatience in Islamabad with lack of progress in bilateral discussions on Kashmir under the Lahore Declaration process after the fall of the BJP government in end-April. Despite the fact that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee of India heads a caretaker government until elections are held in September-October, the hope may have been to force New Delhi back to the negotiating table in a serious mode. Diplomatically, since the bilateral process had not yielded results, an internationalisa-tion of the Kashmir issue may have been sought to bring it back onto the frontburner.
If we assume for the sake of argument that all or some of these objectives formed part of the Pakistani thrust into Kargil, or at least were taken on board once things hotted up on the Line of Control, we can examine the results achieved or likely to be achieved in the foreseeable future and then draw up a balance sheet of gains and losses.
Missing Kashmir for Kargil
Militarily, the inherent difficulty of holding on to the Kargil heights in the face of overwhelming firepower and numbers has become a key question as the battle drags on. India has weighed the costs of heavy casualties against the bigger costs of potentially adverse international intervention if the conflict is widened. It has relied on the political consensus to hold on to Kashmir no matter what the cost, which informs its domestic political spectrum (the weak and scattered chinks of rationality represented by liberal opinion notwithstanding). India’s slow but definite gains against the guerrillas have produced collateral pressures for a withdrawal of the guerrillas from what is turning into a suicidal mission.
The political timing of the Kargil seizure, if the idea was indeed to force New Delhi back to serious negotiations, could not have been worse. A caretaker government heading into an election was hardly likely to be in a position to negotiate, let alone offer any flexibility or concession on such a major issue. There has been speculation in the Indian press after the visit to Pakistan by the US emissary General Anthony Zinni regarding proposals purportedly from Islamabad for India to allow safe passage to the guerrillas, quoting the precedent of the Hazrat Bal shrine siege. Whether these reports hold any water or not is not known.
However, Western diplomatic pressure on Islamabad is mounting, especially after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Washington DC and London, and these could take various forms, economic, political, diplomatic. The dependence of the Pakistani economy on the goodwill of the West, and particularly the US, to keep foreign fund flows going makes Pakistan that much more vulnerable to ‘persuasion’.
It goes without saying that such ‘persuasion’ seeks to maintain the status quo on Kashmir, while advocating peaceful negotiations. Pakistan’s experience indicates that retaining the status quo has always proved favourable to India. Any disturbance of New Delhi’s hold on Kashmir, even if partial or temporary, serves to refocus the attention of the global community on a long-neglected, festering wound. But in trying to disturb the status quo in its favour, the manner in which Pakistan pursues this tactical goal is crucial. This cannot happen by ignoring the ground reality.
The Pakistani army chief, General Pervez Musharraf, put his finger on the problem by describing Kargil as “a tactical, military issue”, while Kashmir as such was “a strategic, political” one. In other words, to see only the Kargil part of the picture represented by the Kashmir problem, is to miss the forest for the trees. However, in the present instance, Islamabad appears to have failed to persuade the global powers-that-be of the justness of this linkage. On the contrary, opinion seems to have hardened in the West that the status quo must be restored before diplomatic “business as usual” can be resumed.
Most thinking people in Pakistan are by now convinced that there is no (regular) military option to obtain a solution to Kashmir, particularly after both India and Pakistan have demonstrated their nuclear capability. The irregular military option (guerrilla war) faces considerable political and ideological disabilities, especially since the Kashmir guerrilla movement has acquired a fundamentalist hue over time. This does not appear to be sufficiently inspiring for large numbers of the Kashmiri people who are well known for their traditional religious tolerance. This despite continuing repression by the Indian military in Kashmir.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been castigated by the right-wing, religious, fundamentalist opinion for stating an obvious truth that without both India and Pakistan going beyond their “stated positions”, no solution to the Kashmir problem is possible. The hue and cry against him for saying that, particularly in the Urdu press, reflects the limitations which restrict the country’s political leadership. No flexibility, political or diplomatic, is allowed to any Pakistani leader to even explore some middle ground. Any such suggestion is treated as treason, betrayal, the worst kind of skullduggery. For such ideologically ‘pure’ elements, it is either all or nothing as far as Kashmir is concerned.
Before it is too late, sober heads must begin to ponder how much cloth we have remaining and how to cut it. Passion cannot replace cool calculation required for a strategic plan for peace. The Pakistani leadership must take into account a heavily dependent economic structure, an inability to rouse the world’s conscience beyond rhetoric, and the lack of a solid consensus across the

Nawaz Sharif and his cronies have always been working to plunder Pakistan’s wealth as their sole agenda. He expanded his business empire by misusing his authority as Chief Minister Punjab and Prime Minister Pakistan. And in order to gain financial benefits, he manipulated laws and changed policies. Likewise, in a bid to avoid accountability, the Nawaz Sharif Government amended “The Ehtasaab Act” and made it effective from “1990” instead of “1985” as proposed in the original text of the “Ehtasaab Act” prepared by the interim government of caretaker Prime Minister (Late) Mairaj Khalid (1996-97). And by bringing this change he cunningly saved his tenure of Chief Minister Punjab (1985-88) from accountability.
Despite all maneuvering following references were filed against the Sharifs:-
1. Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and others misused official resources causing a loss to the national exchequer of Rs 620million by developing 1800 acres of land in Raiwind at state expense.
2. Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif are accused of whitening black money during their first tenure (1990-93) and causing a loss of Rs 180 million to the national exchequer by evading income/wealth tax.
3. Nawaz Sharif, Saif-ur-Rehman and others reduced import duty from 325% to 125% on import of luxury cars (BMW), causing a huge loss of Rs1.98 billion to the national exchequer.
4. On the imposition of emergency and freezing of foreign currency accounts, Nawaz Sharif and Saif-ur-Rehman removed 11 billion US dollars from Pakistani Banks illegally. Without the consent of account holders, Foreign Exchange Bearer Certificates (FEBC) accounts were frozen and foreign exchange was misappropriated.

NAB launches inquiry against Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday said it has started investigations against the Sahrif brothers in a $32 million money laundering scandal.
“The reference against Sharif brothers was sent by Interior Minister Rehman Malik and it will be decided on merit,” NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal said while addressing a media briefing at the NAB headquarters. Replying to a question about the reports that President Asif Ali Zardari has directed the NAB chairman to initiate an inquiry against the Sharifs and reopen pending cases against them, the spokesman said the president had only directed the NAB chairman to ensure that there was no political victimisation. Malik had earlier claimed he had evidence to prove that the PML-N leaders were involved in laundering $32 million.
Iqbal said NAB has so far recovered Rs 2.012 billion from Rental Power Plants (RPPs) on the directives of the Supreme Court (SC). Giving details, he said Rs 109 million were recovered from Pakistan Power House and Walter International, Rs 546 million from Techno Engineering, Rs 50 million from Young Generation, Rs 225 million from Gulf company and Rs 100 million from Reshma company. The bureau has recorded the statements of former power minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Shaukat Tareen and Liaquat Jatoi, but no money has been recovered from them, he said, adding the three will be summoned again if needed.
The NAB spokesman said the Interior Ministry has not yet put the names of ministers involved in RPPs’ case on the Exit Control List (ECL) despite a request by NAB. Responding to a question, he said that nobody has been given clean chit in the case, rather NAB is in the process of recovery from the RPPs. Moreover, the bureau has also sent its teams to inspect the sites of RPPs and teams are busy finalising their reports. Iqbal said NAB was in contact with an army team questioning generals named in NLC corruption reference.

JI for Jehad against Kargil betrayal
The News LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday called for Jehad against Nawaz Sharif’s government for betraying the nation by signing the Washington accord on the Kashmir issue. “Nawaz and Pakistan can’t co-exist,” JI Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad told tens of thousands of his party workers, who staged the biggest anti-government protest since freedom fighters pulled out of occupied Kashmir.
“Nawaz has to quit,” the mammoth crowd roared as Qazi asked the nation to stand up as a sovereign nation and reject the Washington Accord, Simla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration signed by few traitors. “Let’s celebrate our Independence Day next month as an absolutely sovereign and independent nation,” he told the crowd, which gathered outside the Punjab Assembly after marching on The Mall from Nasir Bagh.
The rally failed to attract the million people the JI had hoped to muster but the 50,000-strong protest by supporters shouting “Down with America” was by far the biggest of a series of scattered opposition-backed demonstrations.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad accused the prime minister of being autocratic and said the July 4 withdrawal pact with Clinton was unforgivable. “It is imperative for the resolution of the Kashmir issue and for the safety and solidarity of the country that Nawaz Sharif should be removed from the office of prime minister,” said a mock “charge-sheet” read to the crowd chanting slogans and reciting Kalima. Qazi said it was time to tell the US its New World Order was not acceptable to us as it was only “a new world disorder aimed at depriving Muslims of their independence and sovereignty”. The JI chief also warned the United States not to mount another attack on Osama bin Laden. “This will not be in the interest of America. They will invite great danger,” he said. He said the US was playing a dangerous game and will suffer ultimately.
Addressing the West, Pakistan’s biggest Islamic party chief said the Muslims were not terrorists or intolerant . “They only want to live with peace and justice, and will not allow any state terrorism in their territories,” he said. He said Islam was a religion of peace and justice for the whole mankind. Hitting out at the government for its Kashmir policy, Qazi said Nawaz had committed “an unforgivable crime by showing cowardice against a besieged army in Kashmir”.
“It was shameful for the head of the only nuclear Muslim state to accept becoming a satellite state of India despite having a historic and tactical edge over the enemy,” he said. He reminded the rulers that peace could not be achieved by begging or avoiding the battlefield. “History shows that only those nations who always remained ready for a war lived in peace,” he said. He said the threat of a war was not over even after the Washington accord.
Qazi pointed out that the spirit of Jehad and allegiance to the Almighty were what distinguished Muslims from non-Muslims and give them a vital edge over their enemies. He accused Nawaz Sharif of insulting the spirit of Jehad by equating it with the war hysteria and causing an atmosphere of cowardice through state-owned electronic media.
Qazi accused Nawaz Sharif of betraying and bypassing the nation, his cabinet and parliament on a vital decision. He also censured Nawaz Sharif for refusing an unconditional support by opposition and other political parties on the issue. Qazi said the time had come to dislodge Nawaz Sharif from Islamabad.
He cited numerous “crimes” of Nawaz Sharif committed over the last two and half years including subjugating parliament, president, chief justice and the COAS, and his failure to keep electoral promises of uprooting corruption, recovering plundered national wealth and introducing austerity in national character. He also lashed out at the government for its failure to revive economy and throw off the begging bowl. Qazi said the only way to avert national destruction was to throw off the present dishonest rulers and bring in a pious leadership.
Qazi appealed to all political, religious parties and organisations to unite by shunning all political, religious and sectarian differences for salvaging the independence of the nation which, he said, was in grave danger. He asked PPP and PML to rise on the occasion for the sake of national integrity.
He said the movement against the government had started and its ultimate destiny was a “glorious Islamic revolution”. He said now it was on the people to step up this movement and make it a success. Qazi announced that soon his party would hold similar rallies in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta before giving a final call for a march towards Islamabad.
Qazi said his party stood for love, justice and peace all over the world. He said his party was willing to extend friendship to India, provided it granted the Kashmiris their independence. He urged the Lahorites to reject the Indian culture imposed on them under a conspiracy. He also appealed to the people to stop watching Indian movies. Qazi accused the administration of obstructing the rally and announced his party would observe a countrywide protest day next Friday against the government attitude. Later, a JI spokesman alleged the police tried to sabotage the rally by preventing the participants and workers of different cities from coming to Lahore. He alleged a large number of buses were stopped and JI workers were off-loaded in a number of cities. He said police hijacked party buses in Sahiwal just when they were about to leave for Lahore.
Qazi seeks all parties’ support: Jamaat launches ‘new phase’ of anti-govt drive
Dawn LAHORE, July 25: Alleging that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had committed ‘unforgivable crimes’ signing of the Washington statement being the latest, Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qazi Husain Ahmed on Sunday launched “a new phase” of anti-government movement.
He appealed to workers of all other parties, including the PPP, to work under his leadership to oust the rulers and avert dangers to the integrity of the country.
Addressing participants in a ‘million-man march’ who had come to Lahore from various parts of the Punjab, the JI leader declared that the movement would continue till it reached its logical end — a magnificent Islamic revolution in the country.
The rally started from the Nasser Bagh to the Charing Cross where a stage had been set up for speakers. From the Charing Cross to the Regal Chowk, people could be seen on both sides of The Mall as well as service roads.
Qazi Husain Ahmed joined the participants at the Charing Cross.
Journalists had also come from Islamabad and other cities to report the event.
Heavy police contingents had been deployed to avoid any untoward incident. Punjab PPP President Rao Sikandar Iqbal and MPA Muazzam Jehanzeb Wattoo were also present.
In his hour-long speech, punctuated with slogans, the JI chief listed a number of ‘crimes’ Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had committed after returning to power for the second time in Feb 1997.
“Now Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan cannot go together. He will have to quit”.
He said Mr Sharif’s tenure was the blackest of all periods in the past and the Washington declaration was the culmination of all ‘offences’ of the prime minister.
Qazi Husain said his party would hold rallies in other important cities like Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Rawalpindi. Thereafter, he said, he would give a call for a march on Islamabad where the people would also stage a sit-in.
Lashing out at the prime minister for deciding to withdraw Mujahideen from the Kargil heights despite the fact that they were in very advantageous positions, Qazi Husain said Mr Sharif had lost the war of nerves. He said he buckled under the Western pressure at a time when India was not in a position to go for a war against Pakistan without risking a full-scale revolt in occupied Kashmir.
The JI leader said the Washington declaration served Indian interests and stabbed the freedom fighters in the back. In his opinion, acceptance of the sanctity of the Line of Control would mean acquiescing to the division of Kashmir which was simply not tolerable. He said Pakistan and Kashmir were inseparable and as long as Kashmir was not liberated from India’s occupation, the people of Pakistan could not regard themselves free.
Reiterating that the Kashmir issue would never be resolved through bilateral talks between India and Pakistan as New Delhi continued to insist that Kashmir was its integral part, the Jamaat leader said it was a great injustice that Mr Sharif had ‘bilateralized’ the issue through the Washington communique.
He said Mr Sharif had ignored the sacrifices of 75,000 Kashmiris for the independence. He said he would be held accountable for the lapse on his part. Similarly, he said, Mr Sharif could not be forgiven for accepting Kashmiri Mujahideen as ‘intruders’.
Qazi Husain said Mr Sharif had insulted the army as an institution by forcing former COAS Gen Jehangir Karamat to resign.
He also criticized Mr Sharif for converting the federal parliamentary system into prime ministerial system, reducing parliament to the status of a rubber stamp, storming the Supreme Court building and failing to promote industrialization or repay dues to co-op scam victims.
In his opinion, it would be wrong to assume that the possibility of a war between Pakistan and India had been averted.
“Subservience to the mighty cannot avert a war. Preparedness for war is the best way to ward it off”.
He said his party did not want war with India. Instead, it was in favour of good neighbourly relations with India but it would not be possible unless the Kashmir dispute was resolved.
He appealed to the people to boycott Indian films and remove video shops.
Punjab JI amir Hafiz Muhammad Idrees asked the PML workers to join hands with the Jamaat. He said the people now controlling the PML had nothing to do with the party and a revolt against them was justified
Qazi says Nawaz turned victory into defeat

The rally reached Masjid-i-Shuhada to offer Asr prayers and later it turned into a public meeting which was addressed by JI leaders before it dispersed peacefully.
Addressing the meeting, Amir Jamaat-i-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that a movement has been launched with the success of Kargil rally for a grand Islamic revolution after toppling out Nawaz Sharif government. Soon similar public rallies will be organised at Peshawar, Quetta and Rawalpindi after which a call will be given to the people to march to Islamabad. He said the Independence Day on August 14 will be celebrated to give message to Kashmiris that the whole nation stood shoulder to shoulder with them. The nation has rejected Washington Accord and Lahore Declaration. He also declared next Friday as protest day throughout the country.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that Nawaz Sharif is the person who bargained the national honour and prestige. ‘He is responsible for bringing the nation from the peak of glory of Kargil to the fall at Washington. This is an unpardonable offence. As such Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan cannot go together. Nawaz Sharif harassed the nation by proclaiming the repercussions of war while he forgot that in war, India would have also suffered losses. India was not in a position to open large-scale war as its army was engaged in Kargil, Siachin etc. Nawaz Sharif wanted to undermine jehad for a dialogue but if this spirit was destroyed, who will agree on dialogues, he asked?
He said Nawaz Sharif not only turned the victory into defeat but also caused loss to the country by creating price-hike, unemployment forcing people to commit suicides, making mockery of Shariat Bill, replacing weekly holiday of Friday with Sunday and turning Parliament into a rubber stamp. ‘He forcibly took resignation of COAS which is an insult of the army and ransacked the Supreme Court,’ he said. He further said that Nawaz Sharif blackmailed the Press and hijacked the ehtesab movement while no accountability of corrupt persons was undertaken. The trade and business was ruined and industry suffered a setback The chargesheet against Nawaz Sharif comprises a long list of follies while the culmination of his follies was Washington Accord on Kargil. Qazi Hussain said it is high time for the nation to get rid of him. Nawaz Sharif begged for peace in a very disgraceful manner. The peace cannot be restored by yielding to the oppressor. War has not been averted but the dangers of war have been increased. The Kargil does not contain any mention of 70,000 martyrs nor there is any pertinent promise for the solution to Kashmir issue according to UN Resolutions. The Accord is nothing except to implement American New World Order with Indian hegemony in the region. This is shameful for nuclear Pakistan and the entire Muslim Ummah of which Pakistan is a leader. Pakistan is not confined to the geographical boundaries but it exists within the unlimited boundaries of Muslim world and even within India. He said that the Accord called for unilateral withdrawal from Kargil. The Accord promises that Clinton will take interest in Kashmir and encourage Pakistan and India to resolve their problems bilaterally according to Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration while one of the two countries hesitates to accept Kashmir as a disputed territory. India accepts Kashmir dispute to the extent that one part of it, is occupied by Pakistan. He said there is no use of any dialogue with India unless it recognises Kashmir as a disputed territory.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad deplored that America summoned Pakistan ambassador to express its concern on the killings of 15 Hindus but it remained silent on the killings of 70,000 Kashmiris at the hands of Indian security forces. He asked as to who will take the accountability of Nawaz Sharif of all these foul-plays? The participants shouted that they are prepared to take the accountability of Nawaz Sharif. Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that the successive governments buried the Kashmir issue through Tashkent and Simla Agreements while the Kashmiri Mujahideen kept alive this issue by rendering sacrifices since the recent uprising which began in 1989.
The Kashmir issue was internationalised by Kashmiris with their blood but the Nawaz-Clinton Accord again made it a bilaterial and local issue. This is an offence never to be pardoned. He said some unscruplous persons say that Pakistan’s security cannot be put at stake at the cost of Kargil. Tomorrow they will say that Pakistan’s security cannot be endangered at the cost of Karachi, Lahore, Quetta or Peshawar.
He said peace cannot be established by begging peace but by making preparations to face aggression. Jehad is binding on believers and it provided strength to the poor and oppressed people. No one can undermine the spirit of jehad as it is part of the faith of Muslims. It is not Pakistan but India which is interfering in the internal affairs of Pakistan and violating LoC. Pakistan government should have declared support to Kashmiri Mujahideen instead of adopting an apologetic attitude.

Earlier Amir JI Punjab Hafiz Mohammad Idrees said that Jamaat-i-Islami will work as the vanguard to oust Nawaz Sharif. He said that Islamabad and Washington are perturbed on the successful rally. He invited the sincere workers of PML (N) to join Jamaat movement. He also invited PPP workers to join hands with Jamaat-i-Islami in its movement against Nawaz Sharif. Hafiz Muhammad Idrees presented a cheque of Rs 50 lakh to Qazi Hussain Ahmad for assisting Mujahideen. He promised another cheque of Rs. one crore by the next November.

When contacted, NAB spokesman Ramzan Sajid declined to give details of the cases against the Sharifs. He neither denied nor confirmed that the names of the PML-N leaders were in the list.
“We have sent the record of more than 16,000 people to the ECP,” he said.
The spokesman said NAB had received records of 19,400 candidates and the record of 16,526 had been scrutinised and sent back to the ECP. “Of the total applications received by NAB, 2,874 are under process and will be returned by late tonight,” he added.
The election cell of NAB receives relevant information from regional offices, compiles the record of candidates and forwards it to the ECP within 24 hours, in accordance with a decision taken at a meeting with the ECP last month.
Representatives of relevant departments including National Database Registration Authority, Federal Board of Revenue, and State Bank of Pakistan attended the meeting.
