Members of the Hazara community and relatives of Kirani road suicide blast victims buried all 90 dead bodies amid tears and sorrows in Hazara Town graveyard Quetta.
Hundreds of people‚ including women and children attended last rituals of the victims.
“All dead bodies have been buried”, Syed Dawood Agha, the President Balochistan Shia Conference said. Emotional movements were witnessed during the burial as the relatives broke into tears while burying their loved ones.
Hazara community staged four days tiresome sit-in in protest over killings in a suicide blast on February 16 in Kirani road area of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. Women and children spent chilly nights in open sky to mourn the killings and force the authorities to launch targeted operation in Quetta.
Earlier‚ the aggrieved protesters at Hazara Town graveyard started aerial firing during the burial process; as a result of stampede two persons were injured.
Angry mob pelted stones and opened fire at the vehicle of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Quetta, Mansoor Kakar.
“The DC narrowly escaped the firing”, Fayyaz Sumbal, the Deputy Inspector General Police Quetta said.
Frontier Corps and police personnel quickly retaliated and their aerial firing dispersed the enraged protesters.
Security forces cordoned off the graveyard and controlled the situation by quickly retaliating and firing aerial shots to disperse the enraged protesters.
Meanwhile, most of the sit-ins staged in major cities of the country in solidarity with the victims were called off.
ISLAMABAD: During Thursday’s hearing of the suo motu notice taken of unabated killings of the Hazara community, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that intelligence was supposed to be shared with law-enforcement agencies and not with the court, DawnNews reported.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar was hearing the case.
During the proceedings, the chief justice moreover inquired as to what was the assurance that such incidents would not occur in the future.
Nasir Ali Shah, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA from Balochistan, told the court that some 1,500 people had been killed between 2002 and 2013.
Shah added that members of the Hazara community had buried their dead but were fearful of more attacks.
The hearing was adjourned to 11:30 am due to the absence of certain officials who had been summoned to appear before the bench.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had claimed before the bench that it had forewarned of the carnage in which over 87 innocent Shia Hazaras lost their lives in Quetta.
“A huge consignment of explosives was being transported,” the ISI had stated in a report submitted to the bench.
Read out by Director Legal of the Ministry of Defence Commander Shahbaz, the ISI report had said that despite being in a crude form, the information had been passed on (to the provincial government) about an imminent bomb blast. It said the terrorists had taken advantage of water scarcity in Hazara Town and sent a tanker loaded with 800-1,000 kilograms of explosives.
Operation against Lashkar-i-Jhangvi
On Wednesday, the federal government had announced that the operation launched against the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) would continue until the arrest of its entire leadership.
Briefing reporters after a meting of the federal cabinet, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira had stated that all law-enforcement agencies were participating in the operation which had led to the killing of four LJ members and arrest of 170 people allegedly involved in carrying out attacks on Hazara Shias.
“We assure everybody in the country that the government will take the ongoing operation to its logical conclusion.”

Pakistan’s defence industry is building what companies hope will be a domestic fleet of aerial drones that can take over the US’s role in attacking militant strongholds, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
“The US’s persistent use of armed drones to kill militants in remote parts of Pakistan has created a public backlash that has damaged the relationship between the two nations,” the newspaper said in a despatch.
“But Pakistan isn’t altogether against drones. The nation’s leaders want to have more control over where and how they are used, and are encouraging local drone makers to build up the country’s budding arsenal. The future era is toward unmanned operations,” Sawd Rehman, a deputy director of a Pakistan-based Xpert Engineering, which builds aerial drones, was quoted as saying. “The policy of self-reliance is always priority No 1 of every nation.”
Rehman is part of a new wave of executives in the Pakistani defense industry who have studied American drone strikes with a mix of scorn and envy, the paper said. He and other Pakistanis view US drone attacks on militant sanctuaries as counterproductive.
Instead, Xpert and a small number of other companies are working to develop the country’s own fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles –a force they hope will one day supplant the American drones that dominate the country’s border with Afghanistan.
“We have tried our best asking the United States to transfer this technology to us to fight our own war instead of somebody from abroad coming and doing it,” said Maj-Gen Tahir Ashraf Khan, director general of Pakistan’s Defense Export Promotion Organisation. “Those efforts did not meet with success, so we decided to venture into this field ourselves and we have gone pretty far ahead.”
Pakistan’s military already uses a small but growing number of unarmed drones, some of them manufactured at home, to monitor the borders, coast and mountain ranges that serve as sanctuaries for some of the world’s most wanted militant leaders, including the Taliban and its allied Haqqani Network, the Journal said.
US officials agreed last year to sell Islamabad several dozen small, unarmed model drones with limited short-range surveillance capabilities. American officials opposed Pakistani requests for the transfer of the US armed drone technology to Pakistan. The Pentagon declined to comment on Pakistan’s drone programme or the reasons for not giving it the US technology.
Washington is resuming about $1 billion in military aid after freezing it when Pakistan blocked the US access to supply lines into Afghanistan. That followed an American border strike that killed 25 Pakistani troops in November 2011. The standoff ended over the summer with a US apology. “Without advanced satellite technology, the Pakistanis are incapable of developing armed drones by themselves now,” the despatch said. It will take years, if not decades, for Pakistan to develop a fleet of armed drones to rival America’s Predator and Reaper models, many analysts and people in the industry say. To expand its capabilities, Pakistan is looking for help from China which has marketed its own version of armed drones to developing countries, it said.
GIDS produces one of Pakistan’s newest and most advanced drones, a medium-range vehicle called the Shahpar that can fly for about seven hours –a fraction of the 40 hours a Predator can spend in the sky.
To supplement its nascent drone industry, Pakistan has been working with Italy’s Selex Galileo SpA to produce a medium-range Falco drone with limited capabilities that the Pakistani military has been using for surveillance since 2009 when the government staged operations against militants based in Swat Valley in northeastern Pakistan. While Pakistan has looked to other countries to advance its drone capabilities, one Pakistani company said it has exported a small number of drones to a private company in the US.
Raja Sabri Khan, chief executive of Integrated Dynamics, a Karachi-based drone manufacturer, said he thought the US use of armed drones has given the industry a bad name, it said. He aims to help rehabilitate the perception of drones by promoting their peaceful uses, such as the ability to locate flood victims for rescue. “Drones can be used for saving lives, for security. I am absolutely against drones for armed purposes,” he said.

Currently PAF is involved in the sixth sequel of “Saffron Bandit”, which commenced on 22nd October 2012. The whole exercise is spread over six to seven months. The exercise is planned to culminate on 27 April 2013. It is aimed at standardizing the tactics and provide near-realistic ‘Role Oriented’ training to PAF combat crew in a controlled environment, with the exposure of integrating combat support elements in synchronization with modern concepts and emerging tactical scenarios.
Presently the Surface Attack Phase of the second cycle is in progress. The Chief of Army Staff and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) have separately visited the exercise area and been briefed regarding the concept and conduct of the exercise. A unique feature of the “Saffron Bandit” under progress is that all the modern weapon systems and capabilities of PAF as well as the Army’s Air Aviation and Air Defence System are operating under one umbrella for the first time orchestrating modern tactical environment. State-of-the-art data links and communication systems have been integrated, along with the employment of beyond visual range weapons as well as standoff capabilities operating under the umbrella of electronic warfare, are being activated.
The CJCSC was afforded the opportunity to fly in an AEW&C Aircraft to observe the complexities of aerial warfare and the professional handling and employment of integrated air and ground combat elements by the aircrew. Simultaneously, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, set a personal example by actively participating in the exercise and examining the war preparedness of PAF Combat Squadrons, flying an F-16 Block 52. Overwhelmed by the experience of flying on board the SAAB 2000 aircraft fitted with the Erieye Airborne Radar, the CJCSC while interacting with the participants after the mission, stated: “The opportunity to interact with the skilled Air Warriors and to practically fly with them in Exercise Saffron Bandit has afforded me an insight into the high quality of training standards maintained by the PAF. This Exercise, with the mandate of providing exposure and training to PAF’s Combat Crew in near-realistic environment, certainly serves well for enhancing war preparedness in the hi-tech scenario of aerial warfare. It is heartening to see PAF stepping into the future with its newly acquired capabilities and emerging concepts of employment.”
Keeping up with the emerging challenges, PAF has come a long way in operating in tandem with the Pakistan Army in tackling with the miscreants in the war on terror. The current “Saffron Bandit” has incorporated anti militant operations and practicing effect based operations through precision weapons. The aim is to familiarize participants with different tactical aspects of the anti-terror operations in support of the national military effort. The training exercise focuses on tactical level peculiarities of kinetic engagement of militant targets using precision ordinance, with special emphasis on avoiding collateral damage. The Air Defence Environment has not only been enhanced but taken a step into the future with the employment of airborne early warning and control platforms as well as the use of both active and passive sensors including UAVs.
Learning from the experience of the allied forces’ operations in the ongoing war in Afghanistan and recently concluded war in Iraq, PAF has ventured into a new dimension of “combat search and rescue” for the first time through this “Saffron Bandit” exercise. The aim is to validate the concept and efficacy of “combat search and rescue” operations with the assistance of Pak Army aviation. The timely search and ultimate rescue of soldiers and men, requiring assistance and extraction from hostile conditions, even in the face of enemy fire is essential for the confidence and morale of own troops. In accordance with prescribed practice, each training cycle commences with classroom lectures on combat related topics to consolidate academic knowledge of the combat crew before commencing the flying operations, which are conducted in two phases i.e. air superiority and surface attack phase. The degree of difficulty in flying missions progressively increases in scope and complexity, so that a complete threat scenario is simulated towards the final stages of each cycle. In order to accrue maximum benefit from this comprehensive exercise effort, an all-inclusive analysis and feedback mechanism in the form of an ‘Analysis Cell’ to bisect the exercise continuously thoroughly in order to remain focused in the exercise pursuits, remains active. Whereas realism is essential in any military exercise and near realistic scenarios are created, the parameters of safety are also essential. The planners of “Saffron Bandit” ensure this essential aspect. Thorough analysis of the exercise enables the PAF Think Tank to not only critically evaluate PAF’s combat readiness but also recommend future course of action in terms of tactical employment.
PAF remains cognizant of the possibility that any future conflict in the region will be short and intense, characterized by overwhelming employment of air power. PAF thus has to maintain its cutting edge to meet any future threat to the utmost of its capabilities. “Saffron Bandit” provides this opportunity in a wholesome manner.

Exactly four years after the brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto, a letter of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), country’s top intelligence outfit, has revealed that the extremists groups related to al Qaeda have had their plan to assassinate Benazir Bhutto six days earlier then 27th of December 2007 the day when Miss Bhutto was assassinated reported The DAWN a Pakistani English Daily.
The five lines short letter with the subject of , “ al Qaeda Threat,” is addressed to Kamal Shah, the then Secretary of Interior Ministry by Brigadier Abdul Basit Rana.
The letter reads as, “It has reliably been reported that a few extremist groups related to al Qaeda have made some plan to assassinate Mrs.Benzir Bhutto and her adviser Mr Rehman Malik on 21 December 2007.The exact plan of execution not known.”
The letter is delivered to the Secretary Interior on December 10th, 2007, almost seventeen days before the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
The copy of the letter shows that Kamal Shah immediately wrote a short note on the letter saying, “this is a threat with specific date, we should sensitize them,” Kamal Shah has further directed Brigadier (retired) Javed Iqbal Cheema, the then Director General of Ministry’s National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) directing him to speak.
The third note which is not readable properly mentions as, “I have informed MrMalik by fax,’ by some Joint Secretary or Brigadier (retired) Javed Iqbal Cheema.
In this letter the specific Intelligence was provided by Brigadier Abdul Basit Rana of ISI, who according to this correspondent is yet not appeared before any investigation committee including the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Joint Investigation Team (JIT) headed by a grade 20 police officer Khalid Qureshi and the UN Commission on Benazir Bhutto.
“Since this was a top secret information provided by the agency and agencies do not give the access to the origin of the information so neither Brigadier Abdul Basit Rana was interviewed by UN Commission nor by anyone else,” confirmed Ch Azhar advocate, the prosecutor of the Benazir Bhutto murder case in Rawalpindi’s Anti Terrorist Court.
It has already come on the public record that the then Security Adviser of Benazir Bhutto, Mr Rehman Malik soon after receiving the “threat information” from Brigadier (retired) Javed Iqbal Cheema, had written a three page detailed letter to Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah on 12th December 2007. In the said letter he had requested for enhancement of Benazir Bhutto’s security.
However, an elephant in the room or THE JOKER IN THE DECK, no one is paying attention to is the mysterious behaviour of Rehman Malik and lack of any emotional response by Asif Zardari following Benazir’s assassination.
Asif Zardari from the get-go started consolidating his power and seems to have rewarded Rehman Malik with the top post in the security establishment. Rehman Malik is a clear and present danger for Pakistan, if left unchecked, he can bring down the republic.
An expert, while speaking on the condition of anonymity, say that the examination of Brigadier Abdul Basit Rana and further analysis of the information provided by him can further unfold the missing links of on going investigation of Benazir Bhutto murder case.

Pakistan’s Feudal No.1 Asif Zardari has taken Sharukh Jatoi under his wing. He has ordered Karachi Police to push the Shahzaib Murder Case under the rug. Or iss ko Rafa-Dafa Kar doo. Common citizens in Pakistan’s commercial capital of Karachi appear to have no safety of life as they reel under the corrupt, feudal-dominated Zardari government, a recent cold-blooded murder has bared.
Shahzeb Khan, 20, belonged to a family of police officers and was son of D.S.P. Aurangzeb Khan in Karachi. His late grandfather Shahjahan Khan was a famous police officer in Hyderabad.
However, his killer Shahrukh Jatoi, son of Sikandar Jatoi, a Sindhi feudal connected to President Asif Ali Zardari, has not been arrested yet despite passage of three days.
Jatoi murdered Shahzeb Khan in cold blood, according to Pakistan media reports.
The killer’s father Sikandar Jatoi was a feudal landlord from Sukkur but later became a “very rich contractor with all government officials in his pocket” after his friendship with Zardari.
The extremely handsome Shahzeb Khan was said to be immensely popular among the youths of Karachi. A Facebook page “In memory of Shahzeb Khan” had more than 34,000 members by Friday evening U.S. northeast time and hundreds of people were joining it every minute.By noon Saturday, the member numbers had crossed 44,000.
“Deeply disturbed to learn about the tragic cold blooded murder of young Shahzeb Khan in Karachi by kin of some ‘influential’ people,” Imran Khan, chief of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Imran Khan tweeted Friday.
“A classic example of how our ruling elite violates laws inc murder,” Khan added and urged his supporters to participate in the protest rally at the Karachi Press Club 3 pm Sunday.
A similar peaceful protest rally is being held at the Liberty Round About in Lahore on Sunday at 3 pm.
Shahzeb Khan was returning from his sister’s wedding to the family Country Club apartment in the Seaview township on Christmas night when he and another sister were harassed by Shahrukh Jatoi’s friend Nawab Siraj Talpur.
An argument ensued between the youths but D.S.P. Aurangzeb Khan and family elders of the Jatoi intervened to calm the youngsters.
However, after a few hours Shahrukh Jatoi shot dead Shahzeb Khan about 500 yards from the Country Club apartments.
The victim was closely related to member of the national assembly, Nabil Gabol.
Meanwhile, President Zardari officially passed on the mantel of the leadership of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party to his son Bilawal Zardari aka Billy Zardari on Thursday. Billy Zardari is said to be gay and this would be the first time a major political party in Pakistan will be led by a gay man
