Sharif threatens to clip NAB’s wings: History Repeats Cutting His Nose to Speight His Face

DON’T STOP THEM FROM CORRUPTION, OTHERWISE

Sharif threatens to clip NAB’s wings

LAHORE: After Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, the rulers from Punjab are feeling the heat of accountability and, apparently in a preventive move, they have started warning the National Accountability Bureau to act carefully or get ready for clipping of its wings.

The warning to NAB came from none other than Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself on Tuesday. He indicated the government was considering amending the law if NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry does not address his reservations.

The prime minister’s body language and tone clearly suggested that all is not well between his government and NAB.

Talking of his reservations about NAB, Nawaz Sharif said: “The NAB is harassing government officers. They (bureaucrats) are afraid of taking decisions (signing of files of different projects) because of the NAB harassment. The NAB terrifies the government officers, hindering them from performing their duty.”

The prime minister was addressing newly-elected local government representatives of PML-N in Bahawalpur.

He further said the NAB officials entered the houses and offices of “innocent people” without verifying the authenticity of corruption or other charges.

Sounding categorical on his future course of action, PM Sharif said: “I have brought the matter to the notice of the NAB chairman a couple of times. He should take notice. Otherwise, the government will take legal action in this regard.”

Earlier, the PPP’s Sindh government chided NAB for only laying hands on its party.

A source in NAB told Dawn that the prime minister had shown his frustration over the bureau after it hinted at ‘thoroughly’ investigating some of the projects like LNG, Metro Bus, Orange Train and LDA City.

Besides, NAB has yet to clear the premier in cases of recruitment in the Federal Investigation Agency and construction of Raiwind Road.

A couple of PML-N legislators from Daska and Okara, Punjab Education and Sports Minister Rana Mashhood and a close aide to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif are also facing corruption inquiries.

“The main thing bothering PM Sharif is that the NAB chairman is not allowing the PML-N government to interfere in the bureau’s affairs, raising his suspicions about some kind of unofficial liaison between the NAB and the establishment,” he said.

NAB spokesman Nawazish Ali remained tight-lipped when Dawn asked him about the status of NAB investigation into Metro Bus/Orange Train, FIA recruitment, LNG and Raiwind Road cases.

Advocate Saad Rasool told Dawn that the government might bring an ordinance before tabling a bill in parliament to make NAB like Ehtesab Bureau of Saifur Rehman.

“The displeasure the prime minister showed about the NAB today indicates the he intends to curtail the powers of its chairman. Under Section 270 of the Constitution, the NAB chief is independent in administrative affairs and is not answerable to anyone. Through amendment the reporting authority of the NAB head can be the prime minister,” he said.

Anyone having grievances against NAB could move court and this was the only option available under the law, Mr Rasool added.

Zardari’s reaction

Commenting on Nawaz Sharif’s remarks, former president Asif Ali Zardari said the FIA was also doing the same against the PPP.

“Mian Sahib, not only NAB but your FIA is also doing the same job. Dr Asim is not involved in corruption, and one of your ministers has also conceded this,” he said in a statement.

Sources said the PPP would be rather more than willing to clip the wings of NAB. “The PPP will fully support any amendment to the NAB law brought to parliament,” they said.

CHENNAI: While her first film toured the world of fantasy, her second opens the doors to a harsh reality. After making her directorial debut in 2007 with the completely commercial love story ‘Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye’, for her second, ‘Kajarya’, Madhureeta Anand decided to get explore the issue of female infanticide.

“While the storyline is fiction, the film has very real settings. We shot the entire film in a village in Haryana, a state which is known for its skewed sex ratio,” says Anand, 42, who was in the city ahead of the nation-wide premiere of her film on December 4. “We cast the village women in the film and even have them speaking from the heart, with no written dialogues to follow. We wanted to keep it as real as possible,” says Anand.

The Hindi film revolves around the story of a rookie journalist in Delhi, who exposes a woman, ‘Kajarya’ believed to embody Goddess Kali, who ritually kills female newborns in a village nearby. ‘Kajarya’ follows the lives of these two women from different backgrounds, as the story explores the condition of women both in rural and urban India through a different perspective.

“What was most shocking for me during my research for the film was that female foeticide was as rampant in cities where people are supposedly educated, as it is in villages,” says Anand, who adds that it was an interview she read in a newspaper that inspired her to make the film. “The interview I read was that of a mid-wife who says at the end that she thinks of herself as a hangman, who merely kills newborns who were sentenced to die by their parents. That made me want to explore this issue,” says Anand.

PMs of $418 million during his twice stints as Prime Minister of the country, according to a book entitled Capitalism’s Achilles Heel by Raymond W Baker.
The book is a dossier on the corruption of most dominated political families in the history including Nawaz Sharif and how they accumulated their properties, factories and enormous wealth.
According to the book, at least $160 million were pocketed by Nawaz Sharif during his first stint as the Prime Minister in the 1990, from a contract to build a highway from Lahore, his home town, to Islamabad, the nation’s capital.
At least $140 million in unsecured loans from Pakistan’s state banks. More than $60 million generated from government rebates on sugar exported by mills controlled by Mr. Sharif and his business associates.
At least $58 million skimmed from prices paid for imported wheat from the United States and Canada. In the wheat deal, Mr. Sharif’s government paid prices far above market value to a private company owned by a close associate of his in Washington, the records show. Falsely in?ated invoices for the wheat generated tens of millions of dollars in cash.
The book review went on to state that “The extent and magnitude of this corruption is so staggering that it has put the very integrity of the country at stake.”
Under Sharif, unpaid bank loans and massive tax evasion remained the favorite ways to get rich.
Upon his loss of power the usurping government published a list of 322 of the largest loan defaulters, representing almost $3 billion out of $4 billion owed to banks. Sharif and his family were tagged for $60 million.
Like Bhutto, offshore companies have been linked to Sharif, three in the British Virgin Islands by the names of Nescoll, Nielson, and Shamrock and another in the Channel Islands known as Chandron Jersey Pvt. Ltd. Some of these entities allegedly were used to facilitate purchase of four rather grand flats on Park Lane in London, at various times occupied by Sharif family members.
In 1999 Musharraf had Sharif probed, tried, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison, but then in 2000 exiled him to Saudi Arabia. Twenty-two containers of carpets and furniture followed, and, of course, his foreign accounts remained mostly intact. Ensconced in a glittering palace in Jeddah, he is described as looking “corpulent” amidst “opulent” surroundings.L-N leader Nawaz Sharif made financial gain

Damn the Corruption & Bad Governance of Dictatorial Ruler Nawaz Sharif

Our worthy Prime Minister addressing a  press conference in Bhawalpur  today, said that he never lies, probably he was promising for the future not to lie anymore, because for his past it would be a  joke of the decade to say he never lied.Probably he was joking, as he knows well that his entire life is based on varied nature of lies. I must hit at people of Pakistan as well, as to why & how they find out that Prime Minister lied. The question arises what made him to say he never lie, knowingly that he is lying. This remains to be a mystery. All of his life poor guy had been like that.

We saw him strongly refuting of any deal with General Musharraf while leaving for Saudi Arabia, later it turned out that he had signed a deal not to return before 10 Years.

Thanks for reminding people of Pakistan, especially, the hard core PML(N) voters and supporters. If they want a liar for Prime Minister of Pakistan, then I should say “Good Luck”. The Sharif Brothers’ motto in life is ,”WO VAHDA HI KIA JO WAFA HO GAYA”?

Now it is for the people of Pakistan to judge whether lies or not.

Which Pervez is Right

Honorable Minister Pervez Rashid was shown saying during a telecast that the total power generating capacity in the country was 14,000 Mega Watts and the demand for the electricity was much more. Whereas the former president General Pervez Musharraf is on record to have said so many times that his govt. left a total of 19,000 MW power generation capacity, but the power generating units are not being operated to their full capacity.   Obviously, one of them is incorrect in his assertion.  Could someone  more knowledgeable put us wise on this count, please?
