State of Medina

State of Medina

Every now and then the opposition in general and the politico-religious parties, in particular, taunt the PTI leadership mockingly about its promised transformation of Pakistan into a state like that of Medina. Probably by the State of Medina they misconstrue it to be a theocratic state where the clergy could rule supreme. Not at all, the Meesaq-e-Medina (The Constitution of Medina) was signed by Muslims (Mohajir and Ansar), 9 tribes of the Jews, the Christians and other believers (mu’minin). The document ensured full freedom of religious beliefs and practices for all citizens declaring them one nation (ummah wāḥidah) separate from all peoples. And, they were declared One Nation by none other than the Holy Prophet SAW himself! The Charter (Meesaq) established the collective responsibility of all! constituent tribes for their members’ actions specifically emphasising blood money and payment of ransom. An attack on anyone was to be considered the attack on all. It was exactly like the present-day Pakistan where we have Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis etc. and they all constitute One Pakistani Nation (ummah wāḥidah) with equal rights, complete freedom to worship and practice their religions and with equal opportunities to pursue happiness in life in Pakistan.  This is what Imran Khan had promised and following the footprints of the Holy Prophet SAW is working to achieve it.

Wouldn’t all the religious parties, therefore, like to join hands with him in carrying out this sacred task of following the great Sunnah of the Holy Prophet SAW?!  I am sure they would not only love to do it but try to surpass each other in performing this sacred duty.

LETTER TO EDITOR

6th September 2018

Over-Reacting

Though the Defence & Shuhada Day celebrations at various stations of Pakistan were really praiseworthy yet, our media at places overreacted in projecting the events of the 65 war.  For example; while praising the bravery of the Pak soldiers they were reported to have laid themselves in front of the Indian tanks with mines on the chests in the battle of  Chawinda !!  Well, nothing of the sorts happened or can ever happen.  The Commanding Officer of the men doing so would be Court Martialled. If someone can get that close to an advancing tank then why can’t he just jump on it to lob a hand grenade inside it which will not only kill everyone in it but also explode the tank main gun ammunition which would destroy the tank instantly?   Then, I don’t know why our media men are shy of using words and expressions not easily digestible to our clergy while reporting facts. The Indian General Chaudhry attacking Lahore had boasted of having a “Chota Peg” (small whisky) in Lahore Gymkhana club on the evening of 6th September, but our media for the fear of mentioning word Sharab distorted it to his having boasted of having a Nashta there next morning!!  What bl— nashta and for what? The illiterate media men should know that one celebrates one’s victory with a toast by clinking glasses and not with some  Nashta!  And again for the information of media, the toast is not that of bread but of a drink and that too a hard drink!  And of course, there were no angles in the skies over Sargodha or Lahore in white robes and green turbans fighting alongside the Pakistani soldiers killing Hindoo kafirs. I didn’t see any and I personally checked it up from late  Sq Ldr M.M. Alam who also didn’t see any angel up there.

It is good to motivate the nation religiously to fight the enemies of Pakistan but let such motivation be realistic rather than fictional and fairy taled.

LETTER TO EDITOR August 27th, 2018 Presidential Candidature

Presidential Candidature

All opposition parties have so far failed to field a unanimous presidential candidate and have thus left an open field for Mr. Arif Alvi to sail through the ensuing elections to be held on September 4, 2018.

However, what is still more surprising is that none of them, including Maulana Fazal ur Rehman, has blamed “Khalai Makhlooq” for the division amongst their ranks.  How have they forgotten altogether such an important perennial rhetoric of theirs to play upon as always heretofore?! Isn’t surprising?

LETTER TO EDITOR : TV Anchors by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

LETTER TO EDITOR

TV Anchors

There are scores of female anchor persons in the electronic media industry – each one prettier than the other and always attired in the designers’ latest, most stylish and expensive costumes that are ironically don only once and never repeated. One wonders who pays for such modish and trendy dresses, that are changed on daily basis? Certainly not the TV celebrity herself nor can she have a wardrobe large enough to hang them all in!  Whatever, it is not having a salutary effect on the economic health of most bread earners of the families especially those with honest means and no “maal e haram” to afford such extravaganzas.

I think it would make the life of all – including that of the anchors – much more easy and comfortable if the TV channels would introduce some simple, attractive and distinguishable looking exclusive uniforms for their respective anchors. It would not only promote austerity and modesty but also do away with the unnecessary competitiveness of outsmarting one another.

Army Chief and Economy By Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

LETTER TO EDITOR

October 17th, 2017

Army Chief and Economy

“Army Chief has right to comment on country’s economy, says Abbasi” reads the front page headlines of an English daily of Pakistan of date. One doesn’t know what would be the reaction of the Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and are they both on the same page or not?  Apparently not.

Of course, the COAS has every right to speak not only on the deteriorating state of the economy but also on other aspects of the governance affecting directly the security of the country for which he is wholly responsible and answerable to the nation.  And, if we wish to talk to the elected representatives and the civilian supremacy etc. then for the information of all, who else in the country has a vote bank larger than that of the COAS, with 9 large constituencies (Corps) each comprising of nearly a lack of Pakistani NIC holding soldiers with right to vote and spread all over Pakistan from Chitral to Gwadar and Torkham to Dalbandin?

Who represents such a great number of Pakistanis and could speak to protect their interests and rights?

The answer is the COAS.
