Early coal mines did not feature ventilation systems, so legend has it that miners would bring a caged canary into new coal seams. Canaries are especially sensitive to methane and carbon monoxide, which made them ideal for detecting any dangerous gas build-ups. As long as the bird kept singing, the miners knew their air supply was safe. A dead canary signaled an immediate evacuation. Dr.Tahir-ul Qadri is like a canary in a coal mine. He is not dead, but, his message is dead as far as the so-called malevolent “democratic,” ruling junta of Pakistan led by Asif Zardari, PPP, and their cohorts, Nawaz Shariff, PML(N), and the rest of the stinking and malodorously corrupt, menagerie of Pakistan’s ruling elite and obnoxiously rich feudals.
Tahir-ul-Qadri is a man of the masses. He is well tuned to their dreams, desires, and needs. Unlike, Imran Khan, his following comes from both rural and urban masses of Pakistan. He is a man of vision and has dreamt the same dream, which most Pakistanis would like their nation to be. But, unfortunately, an honest and sincere person can be duped very easily. In Tahir-ul-Qadri’s case he fell into a pool of crocodiles, the “mugger-mutch,” called status quo politicians. When they found that their franchise of 65 years was being threatened, they quickly closed ranks, and went into a long huddle in Raiwind. When they came out, they had a plan to de-neutralize Dr.Qadri. First, they formed a circle of unity around him and played on his sincerity and agreed to all his demands, while they kept their best strategist Asif Zardari, tune into their Anti-Qadri Huddle and Strategy Sessions, via remote control. Finally, they came out of the Raiwind Rat Hole and poor Qadri Sahib fell right into their trap. Every great leader has a certain amount of narcissism and Qadri Sahib is no exception. Therefore, the Raiwind Rats started eulogizing the great vision of Allama Qadri. They even signed the Long March Agreement, which they had no intention of honoring from the get go. The Islamabad Long March ended without firing a shot. All was hunky dory and Allama Qadri felt vindicated. But, little did he know, that the whole government rapprochement psychology was just a charade, a mere mirage, to de-fang the cobra, which would have ended 65 years of tyranny of the feudal oligarch. In doing so, these Denizens of Hades, destroyed the only Ray of Hope, the long suffering 180 million politically, socially, and economically abused people of Pakistan. But, be warned, warts and all, Tahir-ul-Qadri tried to bring about a peace change in a 200 years old Colonialists established feudalistic society. He was masterfully neutralized by a cancerous gang of thugs called Pakistan’s political elite, made-up of crooked politicians, like Asif Zardari, Chaudhrys of Gujrat, Asfandyar Wali, Mulla Fazlur Rahman a.k.a “Mulla Diesel, and JI.
You may ask what the future holds for Pakistan? The answer is that the current status quo may continue till the elections. But, once they start all hell will break lose if the same cabal of political Mafiosi retain power. Pakistan has been reduced to the level of chaotic Somalia. The country is armed to the teeth and the masses of people are hungry. There will come a time, when Pakistani politicians will get religion. They will pray for another mortal messiah, like Qadri. Allah sends warners to all nations.
The Glorious Qur’an mentions in Surah Fatir, chapter 35 verse 24 “ . . . And there never was a people, without a Warner having lived among them (in the past).” [Al-Qur’an 35:24].
The Warners came in the shape of Prophets or Allah’s messengers. The Last Prophet was Muhammad (SAW), who was sent to All Mankind, to give the Last Message of Allah, the Lord and Creator of All Universes, Rab- il-Alameen. Muhammad (SAW) was the Seal of the Prophets (No Prophet will succeed him). However, Allah continues to send warners, who are not Prophets, but ordinary human beings, who do extraordinary things. They come deliver their people from bondage and misery of tyrannical rulers and societies. Among the notables of our time are Mr. Abdus Sattar Edhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, and Cesar Chavez.
If there is no heed paid to the modern day “warners,” the results can be disastrous. Case in point, Quaid-e-Azam had warned the British about the machinations of Hindus, including Gandhi, Nehru, and Patel, in grabbing major portion of the then British Sub-Continent. The British paid no heed, because, they were in a hurry to cut their losses and make a quick exit, thus leaving a flaming sub-continent. Millions of poor and indigent people paid with their lives. Demonic ethnic and religious forces unleashed and the sub continent was left in shambles.
Dr.Tahir ul Qadri is nothing but a warner, to a nation of errant ruling elite. They have made a mockery of not only his ideas, but incessantly, ridiculed his personality and his visage. Third rate individuals like Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira, a bucolic yokel, tried comedic impersonation of the Islamic Jurisprudence Scholar. Others cast a doubt on his motives and made sinister allegations about his character and motives, without providing a verifiable argument. Low IQ individuals, like the former cowardly PM Nawaz Shariff denigrated Allama Qadri’s organization and his mission. Long story short, without paying attention to his message, they figuratively shot the messenger.
So what comes next may not be a peaceful transition, rather a Bloody Revolution is on the horizon in Pakistan. The 180 million Pakistan are FEd-UP and will NOT take it anymore. The posh houses of DHA in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, may end up in a flaming inferno instigated by the rampaging hordes of starving Pakistanis. History tends to repeat itself, although, the circumstances or locale may be different, but economic repression and penury of the masses lead to bloody revolutions. In France, Bastille was a cultural paradigm and a case study on the history of French political culture. Its storming and subsequent fall of the Bastille in Paris on July 14, 1789 and how it came to represent the cornerstone of the French Revolution, becoming a symbol of the repression of the Old Regime. Similarly, the Islamabad is a cultural icon and a center of Pakistan’s political cross currents. It is unlike any other city in Pakistan and during Dr.Qadri’s Long March the have-nots of Pakistan in their thousands if not millions, saw, how the elite of Pakistan lives in the lap of luxury, while, they cannot afford one square meal a day. They have long memories and their first target will be the Presidency and the Prime Minister’s House. Mr. Zardari and Raja “Rental” Pervez, be well advised to start practicing their escape routes. Dubai, may not be a good option, if that’s their Plan B. It has thousands of Pakistanis, who come from the economically deprived classes of Pakistan. With ratings driving the profits of media channels, journalists and political talk show hosts are being motivated to stir up controversy at any cost. Meanwhile, the professionals who believe in credibility, objectivity, and honesty as essential parts of ethical journalism are becoming sidelined.
This corruption within the media is spreading like a cancer, and there seems to be no antidote. If it is not checked, it could prove fatal for the media industry. We must take steps to address this problem ourselves. If not, Pakistan’s journalists could lose the credibility they have earned from years of struggle.
Earlier this month, a video recording of the off-air conversation between two prominent talk show hosts on Dunya TV was leaked. The hosts, Mubashir Luqman and Mehr Bokhari, were speaking to controversial real estate tycoon Malik Riaz in what was purported to be a confrontational interview broadcast on-air. But the leaked video showed the hosts off-air agreeing to questions, discussing questions to be planted, and talking on the phone to government officials about how to construct the debate.
The video appeared on YouTube [here and here, both in Urdu] a few hours after the show aired, and generated a huge debate both in print and online media about the hosts’ credibility. Dunya management claimed there was a conspiracy to defame the channel and ordered an internal inquiry. Bokhari, meanwhile, struggled to clarify her position and denied involvement. Luqman was fired because of the insulting remarks he made about Mian Aamir, the station’s owner, that were broadcast in the leaked video.
All 17 of the Pakistani Supreme Court’s justices took notice, too. They watched the recordings in the presence of Abdul Jabbar, chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority. It was not an official proceeding, but Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry questioned Jabbar about his inaction over the interview, the leaked video, and other TV programs ridiculing the judiciary.
Even while the consensus within the Pakistani press was that the credibility of broadcast media had been brought into question, talk shows’ viewership went unaffected. This was no surprise: In the past, hosts fired from one station went to another, often with a much higher pay package.
Are these the norms of our society? While controversies, real or staged, often help the popularity of the channels and the anchors, such serious and blatant abuse damages their credibility.
Where did this media corruption start? Can it be checked? If so, how? Or is it too late?
It is wrong to think that the corruption of the media is a new phenomenon. It is something that has developed over the years, but no serious effort has ever been made to address the problem. Corrupt media and journalists in Pakistan are nothing new; the problem started soon after Independence. Corrupt practices have rarely been confronted. Too many editors and reporters have simply made excuses instead of fighting the problem. And the poor wage structure and working conditions for journalists have only made the situation worse.
I have watched over the years as press cards or press stickers on vehicles were repeatedly misused. In the 1990s, an Urdu-language newspaper advertised within its pages an invitation for applicants to open a news bureau for the paper in any location for the price of 5,000 rupees. There were no complaints from the public. Everyone remained silent over this blatant invitation to malpractice. At around the same time, an English-language newspaper called for “honorary reporters” with the guarantee of the paper’s backing for an application of a government-issued press card. One leading Sindhi paper made it mandatory for reporters and correspondents to sell “special press cards” as a ploy to raise revenue. There are hundreds of examples of this sort of abuse.
Since its inception, the Ministry of Information has had a policy of “giving favors, seeking favors.” A secret fund for the system was even rumored to have been established in the 1960s. Prior to that, the favors of journalists, editors, and owners of news outlets were being bought on a more informal basis. When first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan visited the United States in 1950, some journalists were given business suits and others were given traditional, less expensivesherwanis. There was a dispute over why some got what they felt was the more desirable Western-style clothing, but not over whether either should have been handed out in the first place.
The All Pakistan Newspapers Society and the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors have never opposed the government policy of paying the expenses of journalists accompanying officials on national and international tours. Instead, some journalists have become regular members of the touring party in successive governments, enjoying all the perks and fringe benefits of close association with high officials.
That sort of corruption has slowly become accepted as regular professional practice. And it was not long before journalists’ “contacts” became “close friends” in the government, in the opposition, or in the civil service. Some of our senior colleagues have become so accustomed to walking in the corridors of power that they entered politics with high positions in political parties.
The problem is clear: The media has failed to establish any professional standards or rules of conduct for journalists, editors, or outlet owners. There are no professional organizations like bar associations or engineering or medical councils. There have been very few instances in which any media group or press organization has taken action against its members for violating ethical standards.
It is time for our profession to set some basic rules of conduct, which we will have to enforce ourselves if we want to keep our standing in the public’s eye. The time to begin is now.

Pakistan Television Channels are owned by rich individuals and require support of government advertisements to fund them. The first part of the problem wouldn’t be that hard to fix, a simple rule banning majority ownership of papers by individuals and certainly banning the owning of multiple papers. The second problem is systemic but a solution can be found by passage of legislation banning government advertisements from appearing in private TV channels. Corruption in Pakistan media is so rampant that even foreign nations like US are spending 50 million dollars to buy off Pakistani media. The 50 million dollar largesse has started to take effect. Many popular channels have sent their anchors on pre-paid junkets to the the Islands of Hawaii, the most expensive and luxurious spot, where Americans go on vacation. These trips are sponsored by the US government and these Presstitutes are ushered by State Department officials.
What is a Presstitute?
Presstitute is a term coined by Gerald Celente and often used by independent journalists and writers in the alternative media in reference to journalists and talking heads in the mainstream media who give biased and predetermined views in favor of the governments and corporations, thus neglecting their fundamental duty of reporting news impartially. It is a portmanteau of press and prostitute.

Pakistani Journalists
Pakistan’s media are addicted to money. The are serving foreign masters ranging from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, USA, and yes, even India. Pakistani Journalists spend months under the Aman Ki Asha Trojan Horse in Delhi and other Indian cities. On their return, they start singing the tunes, pretty similar to those of Bal Thackeray. The only way to really make papers serve the people is to make them funded solely by the people, you know he who pays the piper call the tune and all that. The problem is though without advertisements papers would be too expensive for most people so alternate sources for funding through foundations and independent commission headed by retired members of the Judiciary dole out government grants to media houses. Of course we can’t have a situation where the government decides which papers get what money; that situation would be worse than what we have now, but we could have every registered voter receive an equal amount of media vouchers which he or she could use to buy the paper of their choice or allocate amounts from the vouchers to fund media channels.
If you think about it this system would have many advantages; with advertising banned and with only members of the public being able to distribute the vouchers (and possibly pay) the public alone would be the only piper calling the tune.
Of course the taxpayer taking on the funding of media would be a burden but if we saw it as an investment in democracy then it would be definitely worth it; we could even set the funding as a fixed percentage of the GDP so it couldn’t be played around with by governments. With this system the whole range of the public’s views would be represented from left to right, from conservative to liberal and I’d bet the dividend from such a free press routing out corruption and misgovernance would more than pay for itself.

Much to the dismay of professional, corrupt and hereditary politicians and to the envious anguish of politico religious clerics, allama Qadri has had his way to a great extent in getting the Islamabad Long March Declaration signed by the government. Apart from his resolute and extremely good organizational capabilities he owes it all to the courage, determination, resilience, dedication and perseverance of the thousands of the Long March heroes – old and young, women – again old and young and the children including infants who braved the great ordeal under the most extreme climatic ravages of cold, rain and chilly winds for the five long days and nights under the open skies in the blue.
Not only that, it was probably the largest rally in the world which displayed unbelievable sense of discipline and dedication and was a most peaceful rally where under very trying and adverse conditions not a blade of grass was damaged, not a stone was hurled nor a drop of blood was shed. And yet they achieved their objective. The rally went a long way in demolishing the image of Pakistanis as the ranting extremists and instead portrayed the real face of Pakistan and the Pakistanis to the world. I salute one and all of them and to the nation that they belong to.

MALIK RIAZ AND HIS STRANGE FREE MASONRY CONNECTION
This is not a simple story of a hard working man going from rags to riches. There is a mysterious gap in Malik Riaz’s past. How did this shady character acquire so much wealth in a short span of time? Malik Riaz, a lowly clerk overnight becomes extremely wealthy, defies explanation. Malik Riaz has a direct connection to Asif Zardari, the “President” of Pakistan. Pakistan is the most powerful Islamic nation with an estimated arsenal of nuclear weapons ranging from 150-200. According to some sources, Pakistan has developed neutron devices, which can be used in battlefield, as tactical weapons. Most of Malik Riaz’s architecture in Bahria Town is reminiscent of Freemasonry icons. Is it possible that Malik Riaz is a Trojan Horse of Freemasons, sent to capture power in Pakistan? So, that the Freemasons can get access to multiple Warheads Missiles and Nuclear Technology. It sounds bizarre, but truth is stranger than fiction. And, why was Malik Riaz trying to nuzzle up to Allama Qadri, while in the company of Chaudhry brothers. This all sounds quite fishy. Malik Riaz lives and cares for money, so it is not beyond a realm of possibility, that if he is black mailed by the West, with loss of his assets, or help in hijacking Pakistan’s nuclear assets, what in your opinion would be Malik Riaz’s choice? Love for Pakistan or Love for Money? It’s a 50:50 bet. We hope and pray that Pakistan Army and ISI are watching Malik Riaz’s activities.
