MNS OR MNC?

  MNS OR MNC?

by Zuha Saeed.

images-43
The modern world of today is dominated by GIANT corporations, also called MNCs,the Multi National Corporations..operating usually in 2 or more countries at a time, they are huge in financial terms, lot many of them are even larger than the economies of most Asian,African n South American countries.
Under d façade or their deceptive stated objectives the single driving force behind ALL these MNCs is PROFITS..they are there to make money for themselves and their stakeholders..NO LESS NO MORE,PERIOD..
The characteristics or operating principles are of common roots, they are TRANS BORDERS,for them no geographical line on a map or on ground matters..for profits they can operate in ANY territory, they can collaborate with any individual or join hands with any similar concern with similar motives..for them religion, nationality, colour creed and at times national interest have no meaning..eg,during the tight days that passed between Russia and America/NATO their multinationals were doing booming business within Russia..churning huge PROFITS..
these MNCs opened up in china before most of the European nations opened their embassies in Beijing..at the face of it,on numerous occasions the situation was “touch and go” but the MNCs were fully entrenched and making money, caring two hoots for what others thought and said..
In Pakistan ,one of the most declared dangerous country for any white skinned man,on so many occasions the local public went anti american or anti west for one reason or another, precious lives were lost in hostile demonstrations too..companies like McDonald,KFC,METRO,pizza hut were threatened to be blown up,BUT NOT ONE OUTLET WAS SHUT DOWN any where within the territory..what ever was said, but deep down,THEY NEVER SHRUGGED TO ANY DANGER involving somebody else’s life on their property..thus multi national CORPORATIONS operate with their own minds and single point agenda..MAKE MONEY,nothing can shut them down until they STOP MAKING money, that’s the time,THEY JUST PACK AWAY.

Of late,MUMLIKAT E KHUDAD e PAKISTAN has also seen a SIMILAR creation,,MIAN MUHAMMAD NAWAZ SHARIF..he may LOOK different BUT has a mind of an MNC for sure..

at the time of kargil war in 1999 when our country was burying her dead soldiers HIS sugar mills were exporting sugar to india, the same adversary who was BUTCHERING our soldiers on the mountains,,to add insult to the injury,at that time sugar was cheaper in india compared to pakistani export price,OUR MNC played a stroke of genius,OUR SUGAR WAS SUBSIDIZED BY THE GOVT TO BRING DOWN ITS PRICE TO THE LEVEL OF INDIAN DOMESTIC MARKET PRICE..ur and my tax money was spoofed up to sell cheaper sugar to india ,while HIS MILLS MADE PROFITS !!

then, when OUR country was passing such bad days that FOREIGN CURRENCY ACCOUNTS WERE CEASED,few BILLION dollars were invested by him and his kin in foreign countries to secure tem for times to come.he is on record owning properties in at least 6 foreign lands that include urban mansions, flats, high rise buildings, some like the infamous ill-ford plaza that singly costs over 500 million pound sterling, and a STEEL MILL in saudi arabia too, apart from all this a HUGE property management system in UK run by his son..HE SECURES HIS PROFITS WELL AND AWAY FROM THE DANGER ZONE WHERE HE CAN NOT LOOSE THEM.

HIS story does not end here..
Just for the historic records..we are fighting the Indians in siachin for the last 34 years,
the Pakistan army is standing posts all along the Kashmir border right from d day of our creation,

We have KASHMIR dispute with the Indians,a territory larger than MOST European countries of today,
We have other MASSIVE land and WATER disputes with our neighbour,
ch nisar the sitting interior minister is on record saying that INDIA is involved in supporting terrorism in Pakistan, the latest Karachi air port incident was ALL carried out by hard ware made in India..
India has played every possible trick in her hat to malign Pakistan on the international forums too,,they have blocked our entry into UN security council, they have stopped ANY major seminar, gaming event or even a conference of international repute to be held on our soil in last 66 years…
they have their hand within Pakistan in fanning sectarianism,shia-sunni issue, spinning the Baluchistan insurgency from as late as mid 70s till its present dimensions.RAW has been physically involved in exploding bombs on Pakistani soil killing our innocent citizen..
we already have fought 6 large to medium scale conflicts with the Indians and military experts forecast a conflict involving the 2 nuclear states in a bloody war in near future, owing to so many prevailing unresolved conflicts..
since 1947,in the exodus of population upon partition, numerous military bouts and terrorism related incidents involving india ,PAKISTAN has lost hundreds of thousands of its sons..NOW,our beloved prime minister wants to give THIS ROWDY NEIGHBOUR OF OURS the status of MFN (most favoured nation)? He also wants to give INDIA access on pakistani roads/motor ways  to reach into Afghanistan and CARs (the Central Asian Countries).

He has met ALL big n influential INDIAN business men in recent years exploring his own and to an extent SARKARI business too,,he has met mr mittal in india during his last, but WELL PUBLICIZED visit, exploring the possibility of setting up a steel mill on Indian or a NEW neutral territory.

His personal friends includes a list of WORLD leaders like ex PM of Lebanon mr harreiri, previous n present PMs of turkey, crown princes/princes of SAUDI ARABIA,UAE n few gulf countries with whom his BIZ LINKS HAVE been established and verified over a period of time,,presidents of china and south Korea, heads of giants like DAEWOO,Hitachi and Mitsubishi r the type of his biz partners..few mention BAJAJ,TATA nad MITTALS of india in this august list too.

Being the PM of one of the poorest countries on this planet,a war trodden state still looking for some light and direction.we are the 6th largest population on this planet with 60% of us living under a dollar a day,and he is ALL OVER THE GLOBE.,and THESE ARE HIS PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS !!..WITH NO FRONTIERS OF GEOGRAPHY,NO SHACKLES OF RELIGION AND HONOUR TO BIND HIM..

he is a declared BILLIONAIRE worth 1.4 billion US dollars by Forbes USA.
35 years on top political positions in Pakistan,3 time OUR PM,twice CM of Punjab, that by itself is a world record and he is part of the GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS..this is where he stands AS OF TODAY.

What else can one dream off…HAS HE GONE IN SANE?

NO sir,not at all,,THE MAN IS BEYOND THESE PETTY ISSUES that can irk an OLD FASHIONED/PATRIOTIC/LOYAL PAKISTANI MIND.
for him the only thing that matters is PROFITS.his personal gains take priority over ALL other worthless issues that come in his way.and historically he has proven it on numerous occasions. For him our ideology, the 2 nation theory, our struggle to make Pakistan, the blood of our shaheeds, the religious indifference, the KASHMIR DISPUTE and our CHOKING water courses can be resolved by running Indian trucks on Pakistani motorways while paying TRANSIT FEE to his govt for increasing his SPENDING ABILITY..all these issues THAT CAN BOTHER A THINKING PAKISTANI MIND can be changed into NON ISSUES if the man on the street starts eating cheaper indian onion, potato or eats INDIAN live stock.

For MNS every thing REVOLVES AROUND PROFIT AND MONEY,EVERY THING IS SELL-ABLE IF MNS CAN MAKE SOME CASH,the basic principle that drive a corporation.
He truly has his eyes focused on the right spot,,PROFITS,to him nothing else matters..time we give him his true stature,he is A TRUE MULTINATIONAL FROM PAKISTAN..

Military bashing by media by Asif Haroon Raja

Military bashing by media

Asif Haroon Raja

Indian spin masters in league with other adversaries of Pakistan are deeply involved in bringing a bad name to Pakistan and its premier institutions through a calculated psychological war since 2002. 9/11 had given an opportunity to India to conduct proxy war against Pakistan using Afghan soil. Covert war designed to destabilize Pakistan and force it to accept India as the regional hegemon was supplemented by massive propaganda war aimed at discrediting Pakistan and its premier institutions. Indo-US-Israeli-Western media war was buttressed by a segment of Pak media. Pak Army and ISI, the two bottlenecks in the way of their goals were made the butt of ridicule and slander.

Aysha Saddiqa wrote a highly critical book against Pak Army. Main objective of her book ‘Military Inc-2007’ was to perpetrate friction, cause dissent amongst ranks of armed forces and to encourage revolt. In her jaundiced opinion, Pak Army was the root cause of social disparity and democratic fiasco. Asma Jahangir and her types launched a defamatory campaign to undermine the image of the Army on totally fabricated charges of extra judicial killings in Swat operations. Stories like discovery of mass graves and throwing down militants from helicopters were figment of imagination. Pseudo patriots appear on TV shows and talk crap. Every article published in English newspapers on Pakistani politics portrays late Gen Ziaul Haq negatively and hold him responsible for all the ills in the society. Of late it has become fashionable to badmouth Army chiefs. Hidden objective is to discredit Army as an institution. Gen Musharraf bashing is being done with this aim in view.

Hamid Mir, the leading anchor of Geo TV has always been carrying a grudge against the ISI because his paymasters, America and India, are unhappy with this organization. Following in the footsteps of Indian policy, Mir also puts all the crimes at the doorsteps of Army or ISI. Mir had held ISI responsible for the murder of journalist Saleem Shehzad without furnishing proof. US raid in Abbottabad on May 2, 2011 was exploited to the hilt by him. Even now when he is lying in bed recuperating, in response to a TV anchors question, he retorted as to what the Army had done to safeguard its honor on May 2. He has been pursuing missing persons issue in Balochistan frenetically simply because the Supreme Court under Iftikhar Chaudhri had been showing softness towards the separatists, kidnappers and target killers and strictness towards the FC/ ISI laboring hard to safeguard Balochistan. For him, former are saints and latter devils.

India is arming its Army, air defence, navy, air force to teeth. It is purchasing latest weaponry and defence technology from the advanced world and has become the top buyer of arms from Russia, Israel, USA, Britain and France to bolster its military capability. Its defence expenditure is increasing rapidly since 1990. Military muscles are being built to cow down all South Asian States particularly Pakistan and emerge as the unchallenged regional power and a global power. The US is committed to make India a world power. India has never hid its imperialist and expansionist designs and considers Pakistan to be its arch rival and the sole stumbling block in the path of its imperialist ambitions.

Contrary to Indian military buildup, Pakistan’s defence budget is modest and has been declining rather than increasing in the last one decade. Currently it is at 5% of GDP, and 15% of national budget. India’s current defence budget is $42 billion and that of Pakistan $7 billion. Instead of getting worried about India’s massive rise in defence budget each year and its feverish rush to procure latest art-of-weapon systems, and its dangerous designs against Pakistan, India’s fans in Pakistan are worried about Pakistan’s defence budget. Some cunningly insist that armed forces consume over 80% of the total federal budget and state that defence budget should be radically cut.

Paid anchors and participants of talk shows shamelessly say that soldiers are paid to serve and die at Siachin. Hamid Mir and some other anchors and journalists are angry why a soldier deserves a plot. While the politicians, pseudo intellectuals and segment of media hate Army and miss no opportunity to degrade its image, all and sundry expectantly look towards the Army to step in and save the country from ruination. For every natural and manmade calamity the rulers and the people look toward the Army and the Army always live up to their expectations. The men of steel handle the monumental tasks with utmost efficiency and at the peril of their lives. They are relentlessly and courageously fighting the foreign trained and equipped militants in FATA/PATA and Balochistan and are continuing to fight them despite suffering over 5000 fatalities and injuries to over 20,000. Large numbers have been crippled for life.

Does Pakistan have any other force or institution which is as disciplined and effective in providing speedy help in the face of man-made and natural calamities? Whenever the frontiers come under threat, the armed forces rush to the border. Army never makes excuses of resource constraints or impossibility of the mission assigned. While it clashed with five-time superior Indian military in the 1948, 1965 and 1971 wars, and in Rann of Katch and Kargil conflicts, it faced India’s military standoffs in 2002 and in 2009 squarely. Troops deployed along the Line of Control in Kashmir are keeping Indian Army’s aggression in check since 1948. The Army is defending the Siachen Glacier for the last 30 years resolutely. Troops are fighting the militants and also occupying over 1100 isolated border posts along the most hazardous Pak-Afghan border to prevent cross border movement. ISI is resolutely facing the wrath of combined strength of CIA, MI-6, Mosad, RAW, NDS, BND since 2002 and has failed their hundreds of plots. Like in 1989, ISI’s role in forcing US led forces in Afghanistan to quit by end of this year cannot be disregarded. In fact the US military holds Pakistan responsible for its defeat.

Soldiers serving in icy Siachen and Northern Areas, burning hot deserts of Sindh and inhospitable terrain of FATA and Balochistan weren’t born there. They don’t have any personal enmity with India, or Afghanistan, or militants. They are there only for you, me and our beloved Motherland. In Siachin, temperatures in winters fall down to minus 70 degrees Celsius. It receives 6 to 7 meters of the annual of total meters of snow in winters. Snowstorms reach the speed of 150 knots. Large numbers of soldiers have contracted critical lung diseases due to lack of oxygen and lost their limbs due to frost bite. In Gyari, the entire military camp came under an avalanche in the summer of 2011 and not a single soldier survived. It took over a year’s effort to dig out their bodies and hand them to their next of kin.

Soldiers live an extremely tough and hazardous life and remain ever ready to sacrifice their lives both in peace and war. Their performance is watched and tested by hawkish seniors every year and held accountable for even a minor lapse, and at times inadvertent slip. Having given their best to the military in their prime age, over 80% retire young at the age of 40-50 years when their family obligations are at their peak. Majority remain deprived of a job making it difficult for them to lead a decent life. In comparison, their compatriots in the civil leading an easy life and indulging in all sorts of wrong practices, manage to get promoted and attain highest ranks. They retire at the age of 60 years by which time most of their family obligations like education and marriages of children are taken care of. Politicians enter the corridors of power without any moral, physical and educational training and consider it their right to milk the nation with both hands. Their slogan of sacrificing their lives for the sake of Pakistan is mere rhetoric. While living within red and green zones, they keep building walls of security around them and travel in bulletproof cars escorted by security guards. Their sole aim in life is to remain in power and earn ill-gotten wealth and groom their wards to perpetuate dynastic rule.

There are so many very young widows and tender age orphans left behind by the Shaheeds. Although the Army honors the Shuhada by holding Yaum-e-Shuhada every year, takes care of the widows and orphans and respects the Ghazis, but a well-paid small anti-Army group prefers to spew venom. It pains the serving and retired soldiers to watch the media indulging in malicious campaign and presenting a wrongful picture merely to please their paymasters. The Army and ISI in particular is lambasted despite the fact that Pak Army is rated as the best in the world and the ISI has been rated as number one among the top ten intelligence agencies of the world. The media rather than appreciating the sacrifices of the defenders of Pakistan, building the image of armed forces, and improving civil-military relations, it plays a negative role. Can anyone in India including Indian media dare demonize Indian Army, Army chief or RAW?

For the first time the people have come out in the streets all over the country in support of the Army and ISI. They want strict disciplinary action against pro-India Jang-Geo channel but the government for unknown reasons is dithering and inadvertently giving an impression as if it is supporting the media house rather than the Army. It will be in fitness of things to discipline the berserk media and bridle up Jang-Geo Group for the wrong it has been doing against Pakistan Army and ISI and particularly the calculated 8-hour program it aired on April 19 to demonize ISI.

Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus Project – Wastage of Resources

 COMMENTARY

by

Naeem Baig

The under-construction Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus Service designed by National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPak) is experiencing some teething problems in the greenbelts along the two main avenues.

The Project seems to have been launched in a hurry without conducting any Environment Impact Study as is the international practice for all mega projects.

A decade ago, I did a specialized course from University of Toronto in “Transformation Strategies”. The gist of the teaching was how to avoid wastage of existing resources while undertaking fresh developments

The speakers had mentioned umpteen times that developing countries were doing so not because their people are backward– or economies not performing well, but due to their egoistic leaders who in order to up root the work of their predecessors, waste existing infrastructural resources in the garb of modernization and development.  — Naeem Baig

Rs 7.65b so far fed to capital’s Metro Bus Project

MAY 16, 2014 BY AGENCIES
MBS22

The federal government has so far released about Rs 7.65 billion for the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project likely to be completed in 10 months.

Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms spokesman Asif Sheikh said that these funds were released under the federal development budget. He said that the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has already accorded approval to this project.

Sheikh further said more funds will be allocated for this project in the budget for the fiscal year 2014-15. The project is likely to be completed in January-February 2015 as it will be completed in 10 months, he added.

The project is feasible and a revolutionary step to benefit hundreds of thousands of labourers, students and low paid employees travelling between the twin cities.

A minimal fare of Rs 20 will be charged from the commuters and the bus will ferry them to their respective destinations in 20 to 25 minutes.

According to official sources, the project has permission and No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PEPA).

The project has been awarded to the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) while Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been asked to extend all possible cooperation in this regard.

The experts and other stakeholders have highly appreciated the project and lauded the government’s commitment to complete more such projects during its five-year tenure.

The official said that it was the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to give every facility to the needy and poor of the country. He agreed that some trees have to be cut during execution of the project but he mentioned that there was an alternate plan of planting more than those being cut. He said that affected shop owners have also been compensated.

Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus: Rasheed submits petition against project in Supreme Court

June 08, 2014

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed submitted a petition against the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus project in the Supreme Court on Saturday. The petition to the court stated that the project was largely driven by corruption and asked that the Supreme Court to order an investigation into the matter. The Punjab government is named as a respondent in the application.

Further, the petition stated that Murree Road, which runs from Islamabad to Rawalpindi, was dug up, causing a lot of problems for traders who used that route to transport goods. The fundamental rights of people were being violated by the project, it stated further.

The request was filed under Article 184 (3) of the constitution which states: “Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 199, the Supreme Court shall, if it considers that a question of public importance with reference to the enforcement of any of the fundamental rights conferred by Chapter I of Part II is involved have the power to make an order of the nature mentioned in the said Article.”

Amid concerns from members of the opposition parties, the government on Wednesday assured the National Assembly that the concerned authorities would ensure protection to environment in the federal capital while carrying out project of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad clarified that the project has been launched after getting approval from the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) in writing.

MNAs of the Pakistan People’s Party, including Dr. Nafisa Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho and Shazia Marri, raised a calling attention notice to voice their concerns regarding what they termed a grave threat to natural environment of Islamabad due to the ongoing Metro Bus Project without prior approval of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency.

It may be pointed out here that the Pak-EPA held a public hearing of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the project on May 3 and issued a conditional NoC to the project on Tuesday (May 13).

The minister told the National Assembly that the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service is a revolutionary and feasible project launched for poor commuters who cannot afford their own vehicle. He said the project will provide speedy and cheap travel facilities to the residents of the twin cities.

Terming the Lahore Metro Bus Service a success story, Shaikh Aftab Ahmad said that the project was completed in a record time of ten months and 0.7 million people were using the facility everyday.

Shaikh Aftab Ahmad said that the government would fulfil all promises in its five-year term.

Earlier, the leader of the opposition, Syed Khurshid Shah, said that the Punjab Government and the Federal Government have started the Metro Bus Project in Rawalpindi which he felt was discrimination with other provinces.

On these remarks, the minister of state for parliamentary affairs assured that such projects would also be undertaken in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

Shazia Marri wanted to ask a question as to which private company was providing iron for the project. The opposition members shouted ‘Loha, Loha’ after receiving no reply from the government benches.

Syed Khurshid Shah questioned why the government was reluctant to name the company which was providing iron for the project. “It is iron made in Pakistan, whether taken from the Ittefaq Foundry or Pakistan Steel Mills,” he said.

In power, it’s performance that matters, not seniority

In power, it’s performance that matters, not seniority

Ashraf Mumtaz

When Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif went to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Indian prime minister Nirendra Modi, his daughter Maryam Nawaz said her father was more experienced than the new Indian leader and was also senior in age. She was absolutely right. Mr Sharif has been holding the office of the head of government for a third time while for Modi it was the first chance.

But what the budding PML-N leader, who is the chairperson of the Rs 100 billion loan programme launched by her father for the youth, did not realise was the fact that in politics seniority was not as important as performance of any office-holder. He who outperforms others is a better leader compared to his rivals even if he has no past experience and is younger in age.

Just a brief mention of the decisions taken by Mr Modi after taking over would give the PML-N leader – and others – an idea of what the new Indian leader plans to do for his country.

According to the Indian media, in the first cabinet meeting after taking charge of office on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi set up a special investigation team (SIT) to unearth the black money stashed abroad. Justice (retired) MB Shah will head the SIT team, while Justice (retired) Arijit Parsyat will be his deputy.

“SIT shall have jurisdiction in the cases where investigations have already commenced or are pending or awaiting to be initiated or have been completed. SIT will prepare a comprehensive action plan including creation of necessary institutional structure that could enable the country to fight the battle against unaccounted money”.

India’s Supreme Court had ordered the establishment of such a committee back in 2011, but the Manmohan Singh government had failed to comply with.
The team set up by Mr Modi comprises such former judges and relevant officials that it would not be possible for anyone to save his ill-gotten wealth abroad.

The new Indian prime minister is also said to have issued a directive to his ministers: not to give their relatives jobs in ministries, especially for their personal assistance.
A recommendation for the purpose had been made by the upper house in the past, but the Indian government remained unmoved.

It’s the Modi government which is determined to enforce the recommendation.

According to the Indian media, ministers have been directed not to award contracts of projects in their jurisdiction to their relatives.

Fairness demands that Modi’s decisions should be commended.

It is said that Indians have stashed trillions of dollars in foreign banks, and in case the new government succeeds in bringing them back, it will not have to impose taxes on people for several years.

There is no reason to say that Modi’s initiative will not yield results. A leader who himself doesn’t have ill-gotten wealth is not expected to let others involve themselves in corrupt practices. And he will go to any extent to claw back the ill-gotten money lying in foreign banks.

Now, let’s have a glance at the policies that the third-time Prime Minister Sharif has been pursuing.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, a close relative of the prime minister, said recently that Pakistanis had $200 billion of ill-gotten money in Swiss banks and the government would take steps to bring the same back. Talks with the Swiss authorities would be initiated in August and would take several years to complete and yield results.

Opposition leaders have been urging the prime minister and Mr Dar to bring their own money back to Pakistan first, but both the ‘saviours’ don’t say if they would ever do so.

PPP Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said recently that although Mr Sharif was urging British investors to invest in Pakistan he himself was the third biggest Asian investor in Britain.

Since the rulers are not willing to take the risk of bringing their money to Pakistan,

nobody else is expected to follow suit. And Mr Dar’s efforts to bring back the looted $200 billion would remain confined to files.

Superfluous to recall that the PML-N government had repeatedly assured the nation that it would bring back $60 million Mr Zardari allegedly has in Swiss banks. But so far, there is no progress on this front. Mr Zardari’s counsel said in a previous interview that the former president’s did not have a single dollar in any Swiss bank.

As for Modi’s directive that ministers should not employ their relatives in their ministries,

Maryam Nawaz should spare some time to compare the policy of the Hindu leader with the one of her father. The Indian prime minister wants his colleagues not to employ their relatives in ministries, while in Pakistan all important positions have been occupied by the same family. And the ministers have then crammed their relatives everywhere.
Modi’s directive that contracts should not be awarded to relatives is also not applicable in Pakistan.

The Indian media said that Prime Minister Modi had kept his relatives away from his swearing-in ceremony.

Here in Pakistan all family members, relatives, relatives of relatives, friends and friends of friends were present at the swearing-in of Prime Minister Sharif.  Still, it’s true that our prime minister is senior to the Indian leader.
