MNA refuses to accept ticket for traffic violation
ISLAMABAD June 15th, 2014:
Former chief minister KP Akram Khan Durrani, MNA, and his driver were caught violating traffic rules hereon Saturday.
However, the MNA refused to accept the fine ticket and said he would rather prefer to resign as member of the National Assembly, said the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP).
An assistant sub-inspector spotted two persons travelling in a car on the Constitution Avenue without fastening seatbelts. The official signaled the driver to stop but he ignored and moved ahead. A policeman standing a few metres away, however, forced the driver to stop the vehicle.
When the ASI asked the driver to produce his driving licence, he had none with him, the police said. The ASI asked the driver’s name to mention it on the ticket but the MNA directed him not to identify himself.
The MNA then contacted the National Assembly Secretariat and soon Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed, the personal staff officer (PSO) to the speaker, arrived on the spot and asked the police not to fine the lawmaker or his driver. But the police refused and issued a ticket to the driver. However, the MNA and his driver refused to receive it.
As a result, the PSO asked the police to send the ticket to the office of the speaker for the recovery of the fine.
