DYNASTIC POLITICS IN PAKISTAN

dynasty-politics

Dynasty, it is the sequence of rulers considered from the same family. If we look upon the tradition of sub-continent then there is a long list in which rulers had arrived from the samefamily. Quoting the example of MUGHAL EMPIRE where Ruler ship chip changes among familymembers for a long time. While we can say that it is a common thing or basic thing which is followed in a Monarchy. Taking the same thing from ancient civilization, it is still followed in South Asia..You can say that is has become customary of Politics. If we took examples specifically from India and Pakistan, then we have seen that we have many examples of the dynastyAppearance. From Indira Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi rulers were changed, but from the same family. We can follow the same example in Pakistan, from Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto and now Bilawal Bhutto the rulers are popping up from the same family.

Pakistan claims to be a democratic state, but the culture of family politics that is followed here is totally uncompliant to the basics of democracy. The transformation of ruler from Zulfiqar Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto to Bilawal Bhutto, it is seen that only faces are changed, they have same old slogans of “Roti Kapra or Makaaan” but the condition of the Nation and State is still not changed, they are exactly same as decades ago. Coming up to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, I can only say that it was the only tactic played by PPP or Asif Ali Zardari after the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto to stooge nation. We can’t deny the fact that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto were two great leaders, but it is not necessary that their children can also be good leaders or politicians.

Using the trend of Family politics, Bilawal was made Chairman of PPP. Can you ever imagine how just 18 year old boy canbecome Chairperson of such big political organization. Again, this was done to gain just POLITCIAL benefit. There are many leaders in the party who know politics more than 18 year old boy. This was only done to get the sympathies by using the name “Bhutto”.

PPP is working smarter, using such approach so they will have Sindh card always with them to enter a parliament otherwise their slogans are too old and can’t benefit them more.

In the recent years we had observed that the trend of Pakistani politics is changing a little bit. New slogans of change will be really challenging for the PPP. In addition to that Sindhi Nationalist are also a threat for them. But the real power of the PPP is ignorant society, which will always help them to get into power. So it is obvious that illiterate public of Sindh who are emotionally seduced will always stand behind PPP. Their sentiments with the name of Bhutto will always be used.

So, Bilawal Bhutto have a future in politics, not because he will be a great leader or politician, just because “Bhutto” which is tied to his name. Which is very enough to affect the followers of Bhuttoism.

Pakistan: Leaders or Criminals

|

By Mahboob A. Khawaja, PhD.

[At least 55 people were killed and more than 150 injured in a lethal suicide attack on the Pakistan side of Wagah border.]

Leaders with No accountability and No Shame

Pakistan is in ruins. The nation and its institutions, law and justice, commerce, thinking hubs, political governance all appear dysfunctional and self-contradictory. Eroding freedom of thought and action speaks of the missing accountability of the political elite. The nation is fast becoming a victim of the US planned blue-print being used in Iraq. Vengeful sectarian killings and dismantling of economic, political and moral infrastructures is used to incapacitate the nation by its own sadistic rulers. All fighting against each other to end the very existence by collective madness. The paid Pakistani political and security agents are instrumental in carrying out heinous crimes. Increasingly, and without any logical redress, common citizens are the targets of the political cruelty. No wonder, once conditions favorable to cruelty are established, it spreads like frightening wildfire. The governance demonstrates a dead-ended political conscience at the expense of the interests of the people. After a decade-old American entrapment in the bogus war on terrorism, the country has lost the energy and capacity to deal with any major problem of security or national unity. The foreign agenda is focused on breaking the moral and spiritual lifelines of the Pakistani nation by its own agents of influence. There are no brave and proactive politicians to stop the continuing political stagnation. The nation faces colossal disaster day in and day out but nobody is held accountable for the crimes. The Generals are convenient spectators and Nawaz Sharif is happy, the herd is politically manageable to complete his inherently fraudulent term of office as prime minister.

Daily blood baths of civilians go unabated, adding to the statistical record for lack of adequate security. The latest cold blooded murder of 55 innocent people at Wagha border and 150 or so injured adds nothing new to grieving citizens belief that Pakistan is governed by most inept, incompetent and corrupt people ever witnessed by an informed nation. No politicians assume responsibility for the protection and safeguard of life and property of ordinary Pakistanis. There is an obvious disconnect between the people and the political rulers constantly hated and feared by the masses. The conflicting time zones are widening in which ordinary people suffer versus the ruling elite breathe as daily civilian casualties continue to rise because of the Taliban attacks and targeted massacres of ordinary citizens. Whose failure is it, and who should be held accountable? Is the Pakistani security apparatus so incompetent and ill equipped that it cannot ensure public safety? Given the lack of accountability and lack of shame, there is nothing to prevent these political criminals from repeating their crimes. So the killings of the innocent civilians go unabated. Strange as it is, opposition activists raising voices against the Sharif regime are conveniently arrested and jailed, but not the Sharif brethren who kill the citizens at random and implement planned massacres. Those facilitating crimes against the people occupy positions of political leadership and even law and justice cannot question them. They are abetted by the political class, committed the greatest heist in history.
Assuming political power in Pakistan means supporting the king’s men of oligarchy. Nobody could dare to challenge their supremacy in the annals of public affairs. For almost three months thousands of people across wide spectrum of Pakistani society, were raising voices of REASON in Islamabad to imagine political change and to have the Sharif brothers held accountable for politically geared killings and death squads against peaceful demonstrators. The inaction contributes to the downfall of the country to obscurity and insanity often irreversible in time and space. This week, at Wagah international border, 55 civilians were cold bloodedly massacred by a group of Taliban. Reportedly 100 or more were critically injured. Sharif and military security officials have proven to be a failure to console the people in situation of emergencies and moments of pain and anguish.
A ‘Failed State’ or Quagmire of Political Insanity
Pakistan lives in self-inflicted turmoil of political and military intrigues – all deceiving all – all trying to gain their foothold in power either by attracting foreign interventions or creating catastrophic political hazards to dismantle the fabric of the originally Muslim nation. The stage actors want power and use it as a divine right of absolutism against the interests of the coerced masses. This set the stage for the gradual decadence of the meaning and purpose of the Pakistan Freedom Movement. The worst emerged when ZA Bhutto and General Yahya Khan refused to transfer power to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the majority East Pakistani leader after the 1971 national elections. They managed to kill several thousands of Pakistanis on both sides to retain power and ended up in humiliating surrender to India. Both betrayed the nation and both escaped the accountability. ZA Bhutto emerged as an absolute illegitimate leader of defeated Pakistan assuming the role of Martial Law administrator, President and later Prime Minister. Another military coup by General Zia ul-Haq got the US-other Western nation involved in military intervention to oust the Communist USSR from occupying neighboring Afghanistan and evolution of jihadist – Taliban struggle. In August 1988, Ms. Bhutto and her mother were reportedly responsible for the plane crash of General Zia ul Haq and Killings of 12 Generals and hundreds of others civilians including foreign diplomats. Subsequently, Ms. Bhutto and her mother were not charged with killings of so many precious lives but embraced as the first female PM. She was dismissed twice as corruption that knew no bound. Ms. Bhutto and Asif Zardari stole millions of dollars from Pakistan and were indicted by Swiss court on money laundering schemes. The $60. Million were never recovered by the national treasury. A crime-riddled political culture flourished in which these monsters floated freely. Nawaz Sharif was also dismissed twice on corruption charges. In 1999, he conspired to hijack a PIA incoming flight from SriLanka to Karachi in which the then COAS General Pervez Musharaf and 250 or more civilian passengers were traveling. Sharif had the plan to send the plane to India or to get it crashed. A military coup ousted Sharif and was tried on terrorism charges in a court law and exiled. General Musharaf and his colleagues traded-in Pakistan’s national interest including the nuclear program, and hundreds of innocent Pakistanis sold to populate infamous Guantanmo Bay terror prison in return for cash payments by George W. Bush. Musharaf lived in a $1.4 million newly bought mansion in London under British police 24/7 protection before returning to Pakistan. “Do Pakistanis have any sense of honor?” asked one British journalist of the Daily Telegraph. Would any honorable nation or country allow such criminals to reemerge as political leaders?
Pakistan Needs Educated and Intelligent Leaders to Cure the Political Curse
To imagine a progressive country, educated Pakistanis living abroad could be resourceful to transfer their knowledge and experiences for the good of the country and to strive for a Navigational Change. But how? Hold your breath! An American neurologist of Pakistani origin goes back passionately to serve the people. His clinic in Satellite town- Rawalpindi offers highly specialized systematic health care services to fellow Pakistanis. Even treats those who cannot pay the fee or medication bill. Thousands line up and day and night go to this clinic. The doctor starts getting warning messages from local ‘ghundas’ (rascals) asking for protection money. The doctor continues to work and informs the police. They too want their share of the protection money and do nothing. He complains to higher civic authorities upon getting death threats but nobody listens and does anything to ensure the safety of the doctor and clinic. One day hundred of patients get big surprise when they see the rampaged clinic and the doctor is nowhere to be seen. Lufhtansa Germany Airline flies to Lahore but does not change its crew over there. The fear of kidnappers demanding money haunts them all the time. What a Shame…. What a Shame … What a DISGRACE to a conscientious Pakistani that leaders of Pakistan’s Government cannot extend sense of security to a reputable international airline. No sensible person or global citizen will ever invest or travel to a country at the crossroads of daily bloodbaths, corruption and political gangsterism. Is this prevalent fact hard to grasp to any responsible person in Pakistan? Tourism is a lifeline to any developing nation like Pakistan. During the summer of 2013 under PM Sharif, 10 international tourists were cold blooded murdered by Taliban group near the K2 mountainous region. Is Pakistan that naïve and hopeless in security that it cannot protect the international tourists? Farzana Parveen would have liked to know why she was stoned to death right where law and justice were supposedly administered to have protected her at the Lahore High Court compound. Police were watching the horrifying killing. “Farzana Parveen Stoning Shames Pakistan.” (Asia Times: 6/2/2014). The terrifying scene portrayed in the global news media showed hundreds of spectators witnessing the most horrifying crime to human nature, not in darkness but in broad daylight, and right where freedom, human dignity, and honor of the citizens should have been protected – the Lahore High Court compound with police in attendance. It is incredibly shameful to be a Pakistani and to watch this inhuman atrocity out of the nowhere. Why the police did not offer protection to Farzana? Farzana’s soul must be wondering, why did society not protect her against this draconian act of violence? Where are the concerned citizens who claim to be believers – the Muslims who day and night talk about Islam as being the faith and value of their society? The Sharif brother’s investigation revealed nothing to hold the criminal responsible. In June, Karachi International Airport (“Pakistan in Quest of Political Change.” Uncommon Thought Journal, USA: 6/18/2014), was on flame under Talibans attacks. It was a devastating blow to the international image and security of Pakistan. Nobody resigned or was held responsible for failing to protect the airport. Could Sharif and the few complacent Generals assure the global community that Pakistan is a safe place to travel, study, visit and do business? If not, why not? The bogus assemblies, time killing discussions, Sharif and the few Generals are the people embedded with wrong thinking and doing the wrong things. They are part of the problem, not solution and have NO SENSE of the freedom, honor and dignity of the nation. There was no “peace process” between Pakistan and Taliban and there is no peace. Only the absence of peace, and the gnawing want for it, the desperation of the vanquished clearly visible on the mindset of public horizon.
There is a frightening trend of crime explosion across the nation. Daily killings of the civilians go unabated and unchecked by the security agencies. The blame game is centered on Talibans – the creation of the Bhutto family and the Generals. For almost two decades, Pakistan’s capacity for change has been badly fractured and its moral, intellectual and political consciousness derailed and undermined by the few. Bruce Riedel, one of President Obama’s advisors on Pakistan and the War on Terrorism (“Battle for the Soul of Pakistan” 1/4/2013, Brookings Institute and Centre for Middle East Policy), recently described the Pakistani rulers-both civilian and military: “Pakistanis cannot be trusted as they play dubious role, cheat and become double agents in War on Terror” and warns that: “The changes in Pakistan are unlikely to come peacefully and will have major implications for India and America. The stakes are huge in the most dangerous country in the world.”
Pakistan’s worst enemies are those who are unable to listen to voices of reason and peaceful activism for political change. The ruling elite and the people live in a conflicting time zone being unable to understand the meaning and essence of the Pakistan’s Freedom Movement. Pakistan faces multiple chronic problems which could undermine its future. To all concerned and thinking Pakistanis, the country needs a Navigational Change or we could end up losing our national freedom. What is the cure to the current problems? There is no magic pill to deal with all critical situations except a comprehensive new systematic approach for ‘Anew Pakistan.’ Few decades earlier, in “Pakistan: Enigma of Change” (Media Monitor Network, USA) and “Revisiting Pakistan Enigma of Change”, this author offered proactive vision for planned political change to evolve new institutions and new-age educated leadership for a sustainable future. For too long, the masses have experienced tormenting pains and political cruelty. Nawaz Sharif and his brother must be tried in a court of law for the killings of 14 civilians and injuring 80 peaceful activists at Minhaj al Quran Academy Lahore and stolen wealth. Despite evidence, the FIR against Sharif was not registered by police. Nawaz Sharif has no political integrity and must step down or take leave of absence. There is substantial evidence for the 2013 election rigging by the election commission members. Sharif would need a powerful jolt as criminals do not exit voluntarily from powerhouses. It will provide a logical breathing space for a planned and workable remedy to a highly critical political crisis and to enhance a sustainable Change goal. A new Government of National Unity should be formed under a non-partisan and non political leader of moral and intellectual integrity for a period of two years; a New Constitution should be framed with new public institutions under leadership of new generation of educated people; and then a new election could give meaning and clarity to the purpose of democracy and to transform the ideals of a progressive legitimate functional democracy. The Need is desperate for the Pakistani nation to think critically and see the Mirror and stand firm in raising voices of reason for accountability and political change. The people must ponder at past misconceptions and errors of judgments and to bring 21st century’s educated, proactive and intelligent young people into political leadership role and to safeguard the national interest, freedom of the nation and its future.

Mega Dam & Mega Scam _ Bhasha Dam

Mega Dam & Mega Scam _ Bhasha Dam

Dasu dam2
Special Report by Javed Mahmood/Corporate Ambassador/ISLAMABAD
Diamir Basha Dam is emerging as another mega scam in which billions of rupees have been siphoned off through purchase of private land at extra-ordinary and unbelievably high rates. In several cases, the payment of one-acre of land for the Bhasha Dam had been made in the range of 10 million rupees (one crore for one acre), whereas the actual rate of the land, consisting of mountains and rocks, is hardly one lakh rupees (0.1 million rupees).
Chairman Sind Tas Water Council of Pakistan Engr. Muhammad Suleiman disclosed this ‘Mega Dam & Mega Scam’ issue in an interview to Corporate Ambassador on Sunday (Sept 13, 2015).
Three governments are involved in this mega scam _ Pervez Musharraf’s regime, PPP government and now PML(N), adding the major chunk of corruption made in land purchase was done by the PPP government.
More or less 80 billion rupees were paid to different persons for the purchase of land for Bhasha Dam by the PPP regime while PML(N) government believed to have paid 20 billion rupees from the total package of 100 billion rupees allocated for the purchase of land and rehabilitation of about 4,000 families affected by the project. Pervez Musharraf regime made a few billion rupees payment and it carries minimum responsibility of this mega scam.
“We have reports of exaggerated payments to several persons that you can imagine from the fact that one-acre of land worth 10,000 to 50,000 rupees had been purchased for 10 million rupees,” Engr. Suleiman said.
In my opinion this is a mega scam of mega dam that need to be probed by the authorities concerned to retrieve the looted public money.
Chairman of the Sind Tas Water Council said the present government was least interested in the construction of mega dam as it don’t want to annoy the foreign powers that are against the construction of a big dam that can change the fate of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan.
Since July 2013 the PML(N) government had neither completed the purchase of private land for the dam nor allocated funds to start its construction on fast-track basis, he said.
About 13 billion dollars are needed to build this dam out of which five billion dollars would be spent on the construction of 200-kms long road between the mountains and three billion dollars on the installation of transmission lines and the rest of the amount would be utilized on the construction of remaining projects of the dam, he said.
In a recent interview to this writer, Asian Development Bank Country Director Werner Leipach said that Pakistan must build one dam to expand water storage capacity that would promote irrigation, produce low-cost electricity and ensure economic growth and prosperity in the country.
He, however, said that the government don’t have enough financial resources to build this mega dam and the donors may not support it because of its location as the dam also falls into the territory that is disputed.
He did not name India, but sources said the World Bank officials have asked the government to get No Objection Certificate from India to build Bhash Dam.
For example, the PML(N) government organized a conference in Washington to line-up financing for this dam but the World Bank sabotaged it by linking its financing with the risk assessment survey of the project that involves obtaining an NOC from India.
Chairman Sind Tas Water Council of Pakistan further stated that the government had signed $34 billion energy projects with China under the China-Pak Economic Corridor project, but the rulers have not bothered to include Bhasha or Dasu Dam in any of the CPEC projects that could produce low-cost electricity and support the agricultural and economic development in future.

PM orders probe into Bhasha Dam land corruption reports

A few months ago Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has ordered inquiry into the alleged corruption in the purchase of private land for the dam. However, no body knows the fate of the inquiry or its findings and this mum of the government is supporting reports of corruption in this mega project.

16 Years gone, Bhasha Dam land still not purchased

Dasu dam1The present government of PML(N) has paced up the land acquisition process, but its first two years have gone (out of 5-year term) and still the private land purchasing is going on. How much serious is the PML(N) government in this project it can be guessed from the fact that it is allocated less than one percent of the total cost of the project in each budget for the dam.
In other words, a dam that was to be completed in 14 years at a cost of $13-14 billion US dollars, its land could not be purchased in 16 years. This is the way our rulers solve the energy problem that has paralysed the business and social life.
On several occasions the Federal Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has vowed to build two big dams _ Dasu and Basha Dams to meet the shortage of water and electricity.
The PML(N) government arranged conference in Washington to get financial support from the donors and the investors to build Diamir Bhasha Dam.
But the World Bank foiled that conference by giving the verdict that the government should carry out the risk assessment of the project that also needed an NOC from India. Just imagine, can India give Pakistan an NOC to build a dam that can change the future scenario of Pakistan.
Experts often say every year that if Pakistan builds one big dam, the country can overcome the annual feature of devastation of floods.
Regarding the Dasu Hydro Power Project the World Bank had approved $588 million IDA loan to support the government to build Dasu Dam, a run of the river hydro-project to be built on Indus River. The project would produce more than 4000 MWs of electricity after completion. The Dasu Dam is expected to be completed in 7 years at a cost of 7 to 8 billion dollars. So far the World Bank had provided only $50 million to Pakistan for this project and now land acquisition is going on at a very disappointingly slow pace.
Interesting to note is that the experts in WAPDA have strongly proposed the construction of Bhasha Dam that will not only store water for agricultural purposes but also produce 4,500 MWs of electricity.
WAPDA officials are of the opinion that Dasu Dam is run-of-the river dam that will not store water and it will produce electricity only from the river water.
WAPDA experts have told the government and the WB that Bhasha Dam is expensive and it will take more time than Dasu, but its advantage is that it would overcome water shortage in Pakistan that would ultimately support agricultural and economic growth in the country. But the World Bank had supported Dasu Dam/Hydro Power Project.
Dasu Hydropower Project has the potential of producing 4320MW electricity which will be developed in two phases. Under Phase-I, 2,160MW electricity will be produced which will be extended to 4,320MW in future under Phase-II.

BHASHA DAM

Bhasha Dam is a gravity dam, in the preliminary stages of construction, on the River Indus in Gilgit-BaltistanPakistan. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani of Pakistan on 18 October 2011. Upon completion, Diamer-Bhasha Dam would be the highest RCC dam in the world. The dam site is situated near a place called “Bhasha” in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer District, hence the name.
Upon completion, Diamer-Bhasha Dam would (i) produce 4,500 megawatts of electricity through environmentally clean hydropower generation; (ii) store an extra 8,500,000 acre feet (10.5 km) of water for Pakistan that would be used for irrigation and drinking; (iii) extend the life of Tarbela Dam located downstream by 35 years; and (iv) control flood damage by the River Indus downstream during high floods.
It will have a height of 272 meters spillway with fourteen gates each 11.5 m x 16.24 m. The gross capacity of the reservoir will be 8,100,000 acre feet (10.0 km), with a live storage of 6,400,000 acre feet (7.9 km). Two underground power houses are being proposed, one on each side of the main dam having six turbines on each side with total installed capacity 4500 MW.
In January 2006, the Government of Pakistan announced the decision to construct 5 multi-purpose storage dams in the country during next 10–12 years.
According to the plan, Diamer-Bhasha Dam project was proposed in the first phase and in November 2008, the Executive Committee of National Economic Council formally approved the project. Council of Common Interests Pakistan, a constitutional body representing the provinces, also approved the construction of the dam. The Prime Minister of Pakistan laid the foundation stone of the project on 18 October 2011.
India’s NOC, construction & cost of Basha Dam: In November 2008, the cost of the Diamer-Bhasha dam was estimated at $12.6 billion, now delay in the construction of the dam had raised its cost to over $14 billion. The World Bank has linked the construction of this dam with the issuance of a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from India _ which, in other words, is nothing but a technical way to say ‘no to this project’.
On 20 August 2013, Finance Minister of Pakistan Senator Ishaq Dar claimed to have convinced the World Bank (WB) to finance the Diamer-Bhasha Project without the requirement of NOC from India, but this too did not materialize and the government had now started work on the stage-1 projects of Dasu Dam at a cost of $4.8 billion. The first phase of this project would be completed in five years time and it will generate 2100 MWs of electricity. Let us see whether or not the present government makes serious efforts in building the Dasu project in its remaining three years tenure.

Original Title: IQBAL TAIRAY DAIS KA KYA HAAL SUNAOON?

Urdu Article by: Irshad Ahmed Arif

Translated by: S Roman Ahsan (January 2011)

After Governor Salman Taseer’s assassination, a question is being constantly raised whether there is a need for any blasphemy law in a country whose constitution is Islamic and which is inhabited by Muslims with 98% population. And hence, nobody could dare insult their Prophet’s (pbuh) image. It is understandable that in a 98% Muslim majority country like Pakistan no person would really go to the extent of uttering any insulting remarks against the Prophet (pbuh) or carrying out any other blasphemy action but who would enlighten the intellectuals of this nation that a book by the name of “Heavenly Communism” was written in Lahore in 1983. This book was written by an advocate Mushtaq Raj and was freely distributed among the literate society in Pakistan. Upon publication of this book, Lahore High Court Bar Association and Bar Council cancelled the membership of Mushtaq Raj and demanded that the government ban this book and the author should be arrested thereby given a severe punishment.

A resolution was presented in a session of Lahore High Court Bar Association which was being addressed by President Syed Afzal Haider. It was demanded in the resolution that there should be death penalty for blasphemy against Prophet (pbuh) since there was mention of no punishment for such transgressions in the law before that. It is pertinent to mention here that this resolution was neither presented in an assembly of religious leaders, nor the session was headed by Late General Zia-ul-Haque or any of his followers. Rather it was presided by a progressive and broad-minded person Advocate Syed Afzal Haider who was a supporter of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) yet carried a strong love for Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in his heart. Hence, the resolution was approved with mutual consensus finally.

After the resolution was presented, a member suggested that the author of the book Mushtaq Raj should also be called in the session. Before any other member could intervene, Barrister Malik Saeed Hassan (a PPP loyalist who became the judge in Lahore High Court during Benazir Bhutto’s reign) whose liberal views, respect for law and religious tolerance were endorsed by everyone, stood up and opposed this suggestion. His face was red with anger and he spoke in a loud voice, “If that offender is called, I will throw him out of this session.” At that time, neither the extreme opponents of General Zia’s dictatorship made any effort to label the book as the finest specimen of freedom of expression, nor Mushtaq Raj was portrayed as the symbol of progressive thought (Roshan Khayaali) and religious tolerance. Also, no question was raised whether there was any need for creating Blasphemy law. However, the elements in United States and Europe voiced their support for Mushtaq Raj. Besides that, a lady lawyer who was a human rights activist considered the issue as falling under under human rights and at a seminar she used careless words about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) but apologized later on.

The emotional attachment and love for Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by the Muslims is incomprehensible by the capitalist societies of the West. Same is the case with those entities that hate religion who want to make the Pakistan of Iqbal (ra) and Quaid (ra), a godless state where they want to promote vulgar values. Liberalism is different from godlessness it needs to be noted and still has its limits if we talk about a Muslim country.

In the book “Hayaat-e-Iqbal”, the following incident is quoted about a gathering in which Allama Iqbal (ra) was seated. One day Iqbal (ra) was surrounded by people and a debate was going on concerning some literary topics. A few college-students arrived there also. During the discussion, a student took the name of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.) as “Muhammad Sahab”. Allama Iqbal’s face turned red with anger and he said “Expel him from this gathering as he has no manners on how to take the name of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.)”. Then tears started falling from his eyes profusely and this condition persisted for a long time.

A fellow of trinity college Oxford writes in his book ‘Muhammad (saw) and Muhammadinism (saw)’, “Christians should keep this in mind that the message by Muhammad (s.a.w.w.) created such intoxication amongst his followers which cannot be found even amongst the early followers of Jesus (pbuh).”

Suhail Bin Umroo wrote the clauses of the petition of Hudaibiya. When he went back to Makkah, he said to his people “What I saw in the assembly of Muhammad (s.a.w.w.), I did not even see in the royal courts of Iran or Rome. I have seen that when their Prophet performs ablution (wazoo), they do not let that water drip down on the floor but rinse their faces with it. When he has his hair cut, they do not waste the hair, rather distribute it amongst them. They do not even waste his saliva and apply it on their hands and eyes. Who do you talk about? Will you fight him?” (It is important to mention here that ordinary Muslims like us are not supposed to form such an attachments with any spiritual person in real life – the level of attachment mentioned here was only for Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.) )

Rationality demands that after this gruesome incident, every person and group should evaluate their approach and way of thinking. The rising tendencies of breaking the law should be analyzed so as to curb further division of this nation which is already split into sects, castes, races and political parties. The murder of Governor Taseer has instead been made a source of acquiring political and grouping gains by political and religious groups and by foreign funded NGOs in particular. Different justifications are being given to abolish blasphemy law and attempts are being made to create acceptance for blasphemy against the Prophet (pbuh) amongst society by imparting lessons of tolerance, moderation, compassion and forgiveness to the nation but the 18 crore emotional Muslims are not that foolish that they will forget this verse of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, a keen devotee (aashiq) of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh):

Till I die for the honour of Khawaja But-ha (Prophet s.a.w.w.),

God is a witness that my faith cannot be complete

[Na jub tuk kut maroon main Khawaja “But-ha (saw)” key izzat per, Khuda Shahid hai kaamil maira emaan ho nahi sakta]
