Senior Sindh Vice President of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Zahra Shahid Hussain was killed outside her residence by two motorcyclists here in DHA in the limits of Gizri police station on Saturday.

The murder took place on the eve of re-polling in 43 polling stations in NA-250 where the atmosphere had remained tense for several days.

Police initially said it was apparently an act of ‘mugging and street crime’ as the armed persons ‘tried to snatch a purse from Zahra Shahid’, who was in her 60s, and, on resistance, fired a single shot under her chin, killing her instantly.

This killing had hallmarks of an MQM “hit” ordered by Porky Altaf Hussain from London. Porky Altaf is suffers from anger management issues.He is frightened as MQM is losing its svengali grip on Karachi. The 2013 election has shown MQM as a weak and ineffective part, made up of strong arm bhata-khoors from Lyari to teen Talwar Chowrangi.

However, the police subsequently said they were investigating the matter further in the light of statements alleging that it was a target killing.

SSP South Zone Nasir Aftab claimed that two armed men came to the residence of the PTI leader and tried to snatch her purse when she was entering her home in Defence Phase 4.

“On her resistance, one of the robbers fired a single bullet under her chin, seriously wounding her and later she died at the National Medical Centre,” he added.

Following the incident, Zahra Shahid was rushed to the National Medical Centre (NMC) near Kalapul where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.

SP Sarfraz Nawaz said police have collected the empty casings of bullets fired on her and sent them for forensic analysis while footage of CCTV cameras installed outside homes in the area was also being obtained to get a clue to the attackers.

The SSP also claimed that initial investigation and statements of the driver and daughter of Zahra Shahid indicated that it was an act of mugging but said police were investigating the crime from all dimensions.

Police said the driver of the deceased PTI leader and her daughter were also being consulted to identify the killers but they reported to police that the killers were wearing helmets, making it difficult for them to identify them.

The body of the deceased PTI leader was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) from the NMC for legal formalities while no case was registered by the police till the filing of this report.

PTI leaders, including its candidate for National Assembly constituency NA-250 Dr Arif Alvi and spokesman in Karachi Jamal Siddiqui, condemned the killing of the party’s founder member Zahra Shahid Hussain and demanded of the law enforcing agencies to arrest the killers.

Dr Alvi criticised the caretaker provincial government and law enforcing agencies for their failure to protect citizens and political leaders and said the entire Clifton, Defence areas were being terrorised by armed terrorists prior to re-polling in the constituency on Sunday.

A large number of PTI workers and supporters, family friends, especially women wing leaders, converged on the residence of Zahra Shahid and condemned the killing of their leader.

Leaders of different political parties, including the PML-N’s Salim Zia, also reached the NMC and condemned the killing of the woman leader. They demanded of the police to investigate and nab the killers at the earliest.

PTI leader Firdous Shamim told reporters outside the residence of Zahra Shahid that her killing was an act of target killing as she offered her purse and mobile to the attacker but he fired two bullets under her chin, killing her instantly.

Firdous Shamim said that Zahra Shahid was a mother figure for party members, and a former teacher at the Karachi University and a popular figure among PTI workers.

Widespread condemnations poured in from people from all sections of society on the brutal murder of Zahra Shahid Hussain and they termed it as an unfortunate incident and failure of the state to protect its citizens.

How many more dead bodies, the human draculas want to devour in Karachi? Why the government does not restore its write in troubled Karachi? The governments of both Sindh province and the federal are unconcerned spectators to see the bloodletting mayhem going on. The murderous mafias and monstrous gangs have divided Karachi into various zones and maintain their merciless sway on these.

Their operatives freely and daringly loot the banks, grab the land, occupy the houses, trade in narcotics and lethal drugs and force the business community to pay them the demanded sums of money. If they refuse they are kidnapped, tortured and killed.

The people of Karachi have been living through this nerve-shattering situation for a decade or so. The outlaws challenge the government law-enforcement agencies and kill the policemen and intelligence operatives with impunity. Many prominent social activists and public figures engaged in the service of the people have been eliminated. There is a hair-raising escalation in the bloody feuds in Karachi and there seems to be no let up in that savagery.

The latest gruesome murder is that of an academic, Professor Sibte Jaffar ostensibly for sectarian vendetta. The callous assassin refuse to acknowledge that the deceased professor besides being a Shia faithful, was also a human being and had a family to support. Prior to that grisly assassination, the Director of Orangi housing project and a highly dedicated social figure Perveen Rehman was gunned down. Are the sectarian mafias getting too strong as to wrest the control from the police and law enforcement agencies and kill anyone on their own bidding?

The government with its resources and a huge network of police, rangers and army has remained aloof and from its silence one would be tempted to infer that the power wielders and the political parties could also be behind this tattered social peace in Karachi. One of the strident reasons that would deter the people from voting for the PPP and its coalition partners is the government’s utter failure to protect the lives of the citizens and save businesses of this country from killers and extortionists.

On daily basis headless or tortured corpses are found in various areas of Karachi. Businesses and industrial activity is grinding to a standstill as a result of the specter of horror let loose on Karachi by the heinous criminals stalking in the length and breadth of Karachi. There is no check on them and no conscious or planned operation has been launched to stem this macabre piling of dead bodies of the human beings.

Elections apart, the most pressing need is to stop the killer gangs and dangerous mafias from killing the people at free will or in mutual fight for controlling their delineated zones in Karachi. Is Karachi a city becoming like Beirut where similar horrendous environment was in vogue for years together? Even in Baghdad, where sectarian bad blood between Sunnis and Shias has been rife for ages, is no match to Karachi’s worsening spectacle. Karachi is not a war zone like Syrian cities yet life is equally unsafe in this city as in Kabul, Damascus and Aleppo.

Karachi is burning and the social and business life is turning into ashes due to the utter apathy and callous indifference of the authorities. Who else can bridle these raging orgies of human blood and an avalanche of civil war and from turning this largest city into a killing-field? I have no hope. Let us not wait for the elections as that would take a couple of months more and one can only shudder how many precious lives would be lost by that time.

Even elections cannot be held peacefully in such a dangerous and unstable environment as the rival parties could use the goons to either snatch votes, coerce the voters for the candidate of their choice. There could be shooting and gun battles and kidnapping of the voters on the polling stations. Such sinister happenings could jeopardize the pristine objective of fair and free elections.

With lofty talk and great self-praise(and a media that greatly helps them in projecting that image) they bomb cities full of civilian non-combatants across the world from Libya/Afghanistan/Iraq and dozens of other countries, and they have been found funding, aiding, and abetting terrorists and death squads wherever it suits their objectives. And Al-CIAda magically appears in any country the US wants to instigate crises in. And, along with all this, the west frequently provides a safe sanctuary for terrorists and mass-murders, like Altaf Hussain.

Altaf Hussain fled Pakistan when the murder cases against him began piling up. And the UK gave him sanctuary, do you seriously think the British don’t know who he is? Ofcourse they do. He is in their pocket, and the leverage they have over him – offering him protection for obedience, is a great deal for both of them. They don’t care about the millions suffering in Karachi. This video below is of British Member of Parliament George Galloway, who raised the issue of Altaf Hussain being a terrorist who is making the lives of millions of people miserable, from under UK protection. Sadly, their government and media quietly brushed this under the carpet and nothing came of it.

Which makes it likely that, unless it suits their objectives to dispose of Altaf Hussain, this investigation of Scotland Yard will be a sham as well, theatre to please the public. It was probably George Galloway’s questions like these that made his political career unfeasible for these folks. He is no longer a Member of Parliament there.

ISLAMABAD / PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Afrasiab Khattak on Saturday said Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain had the blood of Pashtun on his hands.

Responding to Hussan’s allegations of the ANP misleading Pashtuns, Khattak said “aap ka Pashtun-duhsman chehra sab kay samnay hay.” He said the MQM chief should consider what the people think of him looking at the number of Pashtun bodies coming to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Balochistan from Karachi.

“Nobody has killed more Pashtuns than the MQM,” said the ANP leader.

Speaking on the MQM chief’s allegations of US funding of the ANP during elections, Khattak said that the number of assets the MQM and its people owned in the United Kingdom and the letter written to then Prime Minister Tony Blair was something to be questioned.

“Where is the MQM getting the money for all this?”

Khattak said that the ANP would not rest until the killers of May 12 have been arrested.

The ANP leader said that Altaf Hussain had “verbally abused” all political parties during his press conference except for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and this was because the MQM could get “seats” from them.

No ethnic fighting in Karachi: Shahi Syed

ANP leader Shahi Syed said there was no ethnic fighting in Karachi and it was the MQM that was targeting workers of his party, PPP, Jamaat-e-Islami and other political parties.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, he said the MQM should focus on national politics and not blackmail the government.

Syed said Altaf Hussain’s allegations had come because the ANP lawyer had provided solid facts to the chief justice during the suo motu hearing.

He said the MQM should speak with evidence and respond to the allegations made by Zulfiqar Mirza.

Syed said Mirza had placed the Holy Quran on his head when he made the allegations and Hussain had “danced and disrespected” the Quran during his address.

Speaking on the bus burning incident in Kemari, the ANP leader said that the MQM’s claim of only Urdu-speaking being killed was false. He said two Pashtuns and three Katchi community members had also been killed.

The ANP leader then brought forward witnesses who he said were relatives of the two men killed. He said the purpose of bringing forward the witnesses was to prove that Urdu-speaking people were not the only ones who had been killed.

“ANP does not need a certificate of patriotism from Altaf Hussain”

ANP leader Zahid Khan, speaking to the media earlier in Islamabad, said his part did not need a certificate of patriotism from Altaf Hussain or anyone else.

He said if anyone had any allegations against the ANP they should come to the courts.

Khan said everyone had seen the way Altaf Hussain had acted during the press conference yesterday.

“First he reference the Holy Quran, then he spoke about the Prophet (pbuh). I am a layman, but if the muftis keep quiet on the way he spoke, it will be damaging for the religion and society.”

The ANP leader said there was shadow of fear around Altaf Hussain during the press conference and he acted like “a person who does not know what to say.”

He alleged that the MQM leader had tried to impress the judiciary and had tried to create pressure by saying he would set his workers free in Karachi.

Khan said his party supported freedom for the media and that his party had never taken action against anyone who had spoken against them.

The ANP leader said none of the MQM leaders were able to respond to the allegations against them and Altaf Hussain did not want to respond to them.

Responding to Altaf Hussain’s statement on “foreign powers” working against Pakistan, Khan said that the MQM leader was a national of one of the powers he had mentioned and that he should tear up his passport and documents and return to Pakistan if there was such a conspiracy.

On the map shown by the MQM chief during the press conference, the ANP leader said the map had already been printed by the media in 1998.

“If you look at the press conference, he had nothing to say. He did not warn the nation and did not tell them anything.”

Khan said that it would be better for the country if a judicial committee is formed for an inquiry on which political parties are running on foreign aid.

Responding to the MQM chief’s statement that his party did not put up containers in the city on May 12, Khan said the MQM had its own home minister in place at that time and that the ports and shipping minister was from their party too.

“The containers were taken from Port Qasim. The ports and shipping minister was from the MQM at that time too,” said Khan.

The ANP leader said the powers given to the Rangers should be stay.

He said the notice taken by the chief justice and the operations in Karachi had helped improve the situation in the city.
