The Bar Council and other lawyers are observing strike and black day to protest against the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri – the murderer of late Governor Salman Taseer. Does it not look strange that the very entity whose sole purpose is to ensure justice to a victim is protesting against the hanging of a murderer? It is also sad to see at times some of the black coats totting guns in the courts premises, locking up the court rooms – at times even with the judges inside, scuffle and brawl with the police and resorting to other unlawful acts! If the providers of the law start taking the law in their own hands then where would one find the justice and the principled and respectable judicial system in Pakistan?!

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has ridiculed the Punjab Assembly for passing the women protection bill which provides protection and legal recourse to the women victim of domestic violence.
Surprisingly some other religio-political parties have also joined the JUI (F) in condemning the bill calling it unIslamic and against Shariah.
May I ask them :
(1) By calling this law unIslamic, do they mean that beating up, thrashing, torturing and harassing of women folk is Islamic?
(2) Or, do they want that the chauvinistic macho mustachioed be allowed to keep thrashing and flogging the weaker sex with complete impunity?
I am sure their answer to the above would be a ‘no’. Then what do they have to fear or object to in implementing the law protecting the women against violence to them?

The Indefatigable Raheel
It was indeed comforting and reassuring to see the indefatigable Gen. Raheel in Fort Abbas attending a briefing of the army carrying out exercises in that area the very next day of his being with the troops fighting the extremists in the forward most areas of North Waziristan. As a true defender of Pakistan if he is fighting the terrorists in FATA on the one hand, he is on the other hand not oblivious of his responsibilities also to defend other areas of Pakistan such as the soft underbelly of Pakistan – the Cholistan front, where at places India is only 8 miles away from the GT Road to Karachi. Well done, Sir, the veterans like me are proud of you as a soldier as well as a commander and wish you Godspeed in your all undertakings. May Allah (swt) be with you always to protect you and guide you, ameen.

Honorable Minister Pervez Rashid was shown saying during a telecast that the total power generating capacity in the country was 14,000 Mega Watts and the demand for the electricity was much more. Whereas the former president General Pervez Musharraf is on record to have said so many times that his govt. left a total of 19,000 MW power generation capacity, but the power generating units are not being operated to their full capacity. Obviously, one of them is incorrect in his assertion. Could someone more knowledgeable put us wise on this count, please?

While it may be a source of comfort to a few yet, the most have shown concern over the announcement of Gen. Raheel declining any extension in service given to him. Their main concern is the unfinished task of eliminating terrorism in Pakistan. If I may, let me assure them that anyone succeeding Gen. Raheel will have no other option but to continue with his policy(ies) in this respect. I think there is a strong overall feeling in the armed forces that there is no alternative to “Pakistan First” and every other consideration is subservient to it. Therefore, the army chief, who so ever he may be, would have to keep in view the such sentiments of the force that he commands. I am sure by now the authorities know that no three star general can reach that height in the army unless he has the requisite ability, years of practical experience and the overall merit to make it. They would also know that the matter of choice and preference seldom works in w! inning over personal loyalties – cases in study; Zia hand picked by Bhutto and Musharraf by MNS. It would, therefore, be just in order and most appropriate to pass on the command to the next senior most Lieutenant General in line. No one should have any fears from anyone as long as he/she/they also keep in mind and work for “Pakistan First”.
