EASY TO KILL

EASY TO KILL

There was a time when life was a lot easier in our country than it is today and I find myself going through a feeling of deep nostalgia when my imagination takes me two or three decades back in time

Not that there was no corruption or no crimes or no increasing cost of living at that time.  All of these were there, but something happened during the last two or three decades which has made us an entirely different people. Something has made us not only a different nation in the eyes of others but has also made our own life miserable. In the days gone by it was a hard life, with poverty, ignorance and corruption but at least we could sleep in peace. A new trait of our character has now transformed us into a nation who is easy to kill.

There are a variety of ways and motives for killings, the most common among them are target killings and random killings. Target killings are mainly prompted by political rivalry and random killings can be for anything and by any unknown person. Then, there are sectarian killings based on heresy and these are one of the most common killings. As if these killings were not enough that family killings have since started and assumed alarming proportions. If a girl and her parents refuse to marry the girl to the proposer, the girl, and sometimes, the girl with her parents are murdered. Family members are murdered in property disputes and sometimes they are murdered in revenge. Girls are murdered as “honour killings”.

These heinous and barbaric killings have become a way of our life; so much so that our country has now been rated, and rightly so, as the most dangerous place on earth.

Fifteen hundred years ago, before the advent of Islam, the Arabs used to kill their female children, and murders in family disputes and tribal enmity were commonplace. God ordained the prophet of Islam who reformed and purged the society of these evils. Now, in this modern and civilized age, are the everyday senseless and barbaric killings in our country not a revival of what was happening in the pre-Islamic ignorant and uncivilized society, fifteen hundred years ago? Is it not the revival of dark ages?

Our prophet Muhammed (PBUH), in his last sermon, at the time of his last Hajj performance, said, among other things: “…….Treat your women well and be kind to them, for they are your partners and committed helpers”. This sermon was not addressed to only muslims but to all human beings of the world and is, in fact, the best and real Charter of Human Rights. This is the advice of our prophet and what we are practicing?  People kill their own wives, their own children and their own family relatives for petty matters. According to a study carried out by Human Rights Watch, an estimated 5,000 women are killed every year in domestic violence in Pakistan.  In order to know how cultured a nation is, you must see the the attitude of its people towards their women.

Love begets love and hatred begets hatred. It is our misfortune that intolerance, violence and hate are driving us to follow the path that inevitably bound to end up in disaster. Hardly any day goes by when we do not hear the news that women and children in the families have not been slaughtered and innocent people in the streets and market places have not been killed by unknown killers. Unprovoked killing of an innocent human being amounts to killing of the whole humanity. But, in complete disregard of any of the human moral values, this process of dehumanization continues unabated. Why this is happening and what is the solution to this dilemma. The solution to this ordeal lies in the following two lines of the great persian poet Hafiz

Shirazi:

Khalal pazeer bavad har bena ke mee beenee

Bajuz bena-e-muhabbat ke khali az khalal ast

(The foundation of everything you see is shaky except the foundation of love that is free from instability).

Pashtuns Also Support Military Operation By Sajjad Shaukat

                                         Pashtuns Also Support Military Operation

                                                            By Sajjad Shaukat

Welcoming ceasefire offer of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the government led by PML-N has not only halted the air strikes on the hideouts of the militants in the tribal areas, but also resumed the suspended peace dialogue with the Taliban. But, taking note of the terror-attack in the District Court of Islamabad which killed 11 people including an additional session judge on March 4, this year coupled with assault on the anti-polio workers in the Khyber Agency, both the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan have repeatedly said that peace talks and violent acts of terrorism cannot go side by side. While unveiling the national security policy in the National Assembly on February 26, Chaudhry Nisar had also stated that the attacks from militants would be met with an appropriate military response. At the same time, in a fresh statement, he pointed out in the National Assembly that the dialogue was still the preferred option and that a new governmental committee with representation from the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Government will take the process forward in a meaningful way.

Contrarily, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has disclosed that a full-scale military operation against Taliban in the tribal areas could be launched as early as this month in case of violation of ceasefire by the militants. While hinting towards military action, he explained, “The Government or Armed Forces whose job is to defend the country, cannot sit idle, if writ of the state is challenged and that is what they did recently by launching surgical strikes against hideouts of terrorists, which proved effective and pushed Taliban to a stage where they were understandably compelled to announce unconditional ceasefire.” A similar message emanated from the Corps Commanders’ meeting on March 7 and this makes things more unpredictable.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz also stated that dialogue with the Taliban had derailed, adding that the state’s writ would be established in the troubled regions of FATA.

In fact, TTP have been acting upon a dual strategy, as sometimes it accept responsibility for its terror-attacks, but sometimes, it deny the same. But contradictory statements of its spokesmen prove that this militant outfit is behind several subversive acts which still continue at various places. In this respect, TTP has refused that it was behind the recent attacks in Islamabad and Khyber Agency, but it accepted responsibility when Taliban insurgents targeted the Rangers, Police and anti-polio workers in Karachi in wake of the peace talks. Similarly, Taliban had claimed responsibility for the brutal massacre of 23 personnel of the Frontier Constabulary who were abducted from Mohmand Agency, four years ago and later shifted to Afghanistan.

It is notable that the TTP had condemned the brutal assault on the church in Peshawar. But, afterwards, its spokesman had remarked that it was in accordance with Sharia (Islamic Jurisprudence) which indicated that the group was behind that ruthless attack. So, ambivalent statements of the TTP-led Taliban have endorsed that it had sabotaged the peace dialogue by playing double game.

However, on March 4, the Leader of the Opposition, Syed Khurshid Shah of the PPP including several parliamentarians doubted the intentions of the TTP, as they discussed Islamabad District Court’s incident. They were of the view that on one hand, the TTP announced ceasefire and on the other hand, it was carrying out terrorist acts. They stated that ceasefire from Taliban was another deception attack—killing innocent people and warned that parliament house might be the next target. They criticized the interior minister for declaring Islamabad a safe city few days back, expressing concern that even the Presidency and Prime Minister House were not safe.

Nevertheless, despite grasping the real attentions of the Taliban, the present government is wavering between fact and scepticism by following the policy of appeasement towards all the Taliban groups, especially the TTP. It is owing to this delay of the rulers in devising a comprehensive strategy to deal with the terrorists with iron hands that some leaders like Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan who had earlier condemned the TTP terror-attacks and favoured a military operation have again been insisting upon the rulers to continue present peace talks with the Taliban.

It is of particular attention that although Pakistan’s other provinces have been facing various forms of subversive attacks, yet wave of terrorism has intensified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the past few years. In this regard, militant attacks on Peshawar Air Port, Pearl Continental Hotel, the courageous leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Malala Yousafzai and members of national assemblies including several suicide attacks and bomb blasts in Peshawar, other cities, funerals, places of worship, government buildings, bazaars, schools, video shops, cinemas, assaults on security forces and law-enforcing agencies in various cities of the province might be cited as example.

Similar acts of sabotage have continued in FATA, and TTP always felt pride in accepting responsibility for these heinous activities. In some tribal areas and Swat, the militant leaders created states within the state, and have been involved in a number of crimes such as drug-smuggling, forced marriages, hostage-takings for ransom and even car-snatching including beheadings and killing the moderate dissidents. In the Khyber agency, they are also indulged in murdering and torturing Shias in their majority areas, forcing them to flee. They have discouraged women’s education, keeping them ignorant and exploitable.

When Taliban had their hold in Dir, Swat, Buner and other adjoining areas, they imposed their self-styled religious agenda. It was due to Taliban’s inhuman activities that when in 2009, Pak Army ejected them from these regions through military operations which were also conducted in South Waziristan, general masses of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA did not protest against the armed forces. Besides drastic implications of the CIA-operated drone attacks, the Pushtoons boldly faced more than four million Internally Displaced People (IDPs) by refusing to accept Taliban style of Shariah and preferred to live in camps.

Notably, the Pushtoons are successful businessmen. But, the Taliban have given a greater blow to their business through brutal attacks. Therefore, they resent the cowardly acts of these insurgents. In some tribal areas, the Pushtoons, raised Lashkars in order to cope with the Taliban militancy which has challenged their survival.

People of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA also know that in connivance with India and Israel, America has been implementing its anti-Pakistan activities by assisting militancy in Pakistan through various subversive activities including sectarian and ethnic violence through TTP. In this connection, American CIA, Indian secret agency RAW and Israeli Mossad have also been sending heavily-armed militants from Afghanistan’s side, which have targeted the security check posts of Pakistan’s forces, Police  and other infrastructure of the tribal areas, located near Afghan border. On the whole, they have killed several persons.

Like the people of other provinces, Pashtoons are aware of the fact that the Taliban who are less than one percent of the population in the country have become self-proclaimed campaigners of Islam, while, the victims of terror-attacks in Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been innocent men women and children. No doubt, Jihad is a sacred obligation, but its real spirit needs to be understood clearly, as murdering innocent people is not Jihad. In fact, by implementing the agenda of some foreign powers, these Taliban and their banned affiliated groups are defaming Islam, concept of Jihad, and are destabilizing Pakistan.

Now, these terrorists have intensified their anti-social, undemocratic and un-Islamic practices in wake of peace dialogue, therefore, people from all the segment of life and majority of politicians in Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA want that a handful of terrorist elements must not be allowed to impose their self-perceived ideology on the majority of Pakistanis, while supporting military action against these culprits.

Although the Taliban consists of Pashtuns, but the latter who have rejected irrational notion of these insurgents have glorious traditions of bravery and chivalry. Nefarious attacks on women, children and other places are against the traditions of Pashtuns who are patriot and peace-loving people.

Now, some political and religious entities have been pointing to some external elements which are behind the menace of terrorism in the country. In this context, without naming US, some are hinting towards the “third power”, and some are indicating India.

Nonetheless, at this critical juncture, entire nation and media are united against the Taliban’s double game by favouring military action against them. And armed forces are well-prepared for the same, as successful aerial strikes on the sanctuaries of the Taliban have recently proved. While Pushtuns also support military operation against the Taliban, particularly TTP, who have destroyed the peace of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.

THE REAL STORY FROM PAKISTAN: WAS OSAMA DEAD BEFORE THE ATTACK?

THE REAL STORY FROM PAKISTAN: WAS OSAMA DEAD BEFORE THE ATTACK?

Was Osama dead before the attack?

In Augus2010 after Pakistani authorities shared intelligence with US about the compound

in AbbottabadUS after its own intelligence gathering ascertains that the compound is occupied by Osama‘s children. Compound surveillance continues through the next year in anticipation of capturing Osama bin Laden.

In January 2011 the young CIA contractor who is given the charge of Pakistan Station Chief works “extra hard” to gather clandestine information related to ISI and Al Qaeda relationship.
The contractor, now infamous as Raymond Davis the “American Rambo” receives a call from one of his assets, early morning onJanuary 27 about a high value target. But the asset refuses to lay out details on phone or to leave the Lahore city, where he had gone underground.

Raymond Davis hires a rent a car and drives to Lahore, while his embassy’s security detail follows him in a bullet proof Land Cruiser.
Raymond Davis is able to lose his Islamabad‘s ISI ”detail” by leaving in an unmarked rented car.
The ISI agents falling for his trap follows the embassy’s Land CruiserRaymond Davis arrives at Lahore one hour earlier than his detail and meets with the asset. The asset gives him some pictures of an intelligence building at Tarbela and recording of a phone call.
Listening to the phone call, Raymond Davis realizes the gold mine he had struck, and immediately calls his security detail which had also reached Lahore, knowing if ISI reaches him first, he would not leave Lahore alive.
Next hour when the security car catches up with Raymond Davis, the ISI bosses realize that Raymond Davis had given them a slip earlier in the morning and in couple of hours he may have done in Lahore, he might have got some important information. Resultantly, they put two contractors on his tail.

Raymond Davis seeing a tail fears the worst and shoots them both in the back, at a traffic stop, without logically realizing that there was no way ISI could have known what he was holding.

His security detail which was close behind rushed to his “rescue”. However, by this time police had chased and arrested Raymond Davis, while the security Land Cruiser running over pedestrians escapes towards US consulate compound in Lahore.
ISI officers quickly reach the scene and confiscating the memory sticks realize Raymond Davis has unearthed a deep secret which even their immediate bosses didn’t know about.
The sensitivity of information rattles the entire echelons of the ISI and even its own officers are sent under house arrest while the relevant cell steps forward. At that time even some of the top intelligence officers of ISI outside the relevant cell did not know that Osama bin Laden had died and his body was kept frozen at Tarbela.
Young Raymond Davis had unearthed the biggest secret of the century, somehow. But now the Pandora’s Box had been opened. Pak top brass knew it had only a few days or weeks at best to capitalize Raymond Davis‘ arrest before US get the intelligence.
In the next six weeks Pakistan plugs all leaks related to Osama’s death and makes sure that maximum gains are made for Raymond‘s release.

However, when Raymond Davis is released on March 16, his debriefing results in a tsunami of US policy, personal agendas and fueling of political rivalries.

Everyone in the US chain of command now wanted to use the information to further personal goals from General Petreaus to President Obama. On March 17, knowing that Pakistan had lost its trump card General Kayani releases a press statement in which he criticizes drone attacks, first from him.

From then on Pak Military raised its stance against drone attacks, fearing that
US now might target its nuclear assets.
While in USA, politics was at its full swing. General Petreaus wanted to get the buckle for Osama bin Laden’s death on his belt for his future political ambitions, while President Obama wanted the credit to help his sliding popularity. While the tussle continued, the other issue still pending was how to confirm Osama’s death.
In the next one month, nearly every week a top US official visited Pakistan, everyone meeting with General Kayani trying to convince him to hand over Osama’s body. While the stance from Pakistan remained, “Osama, Who?”
It was a first in the history that so many US top officials had visited and met with a military chief of a foreign country in such a short time. Seeing nothing getting through the top military brass of PakistanUS started a political and media campaign on the sides to put extra pressure on Pak Military.
Politics within Obama Administration was also at its full swing. Petraeus was pulling all the strings to take the credit, while trying to lay out a plan to get Osama bin Laden’s body out of Pakistan.
President Obama on the other hand in one smooth move decided to “promote” Petraeus to the head of the CIA. The news got out in the first week of April that Petraeus was being transferred to the CIA. While at the main front, Obama continued to pressurize General Kayani and General Pasha and on April 5, Obama Administration submitted a report to the Congress that Pakistan government had no clear strategy to triumph over militants.
Alongside the report the media campaign against Pak Military and the ISI continued.

The second week of April began with a bang for top Pak Military brass. On April 7Bruce Riedel, former CIA officer and White House advisor wrote a report arguing that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons are not only a deterrent to India but also to USA.

The obvious had now become clear that Obama Administration has indirectly sent a clear threat to Pakistan’s nuclear assets. The timing of the report was perfect with Centcom Chief Gen James Mattis meeting with General Kayani next day. In the meeting General Mattis
asked about Pakistan’s cooperation in capturing Osama bin Laden.
This was ironically one of typical Hollywood thriller scene. Pakistan knew that US knew that Pakistan knows that US knows thatOsama is dead. But Pakistan continued the naive game of “Osama Who?” while US continued to play the game that “Osama must be captured”. General Mattis leaves with veiled threats and stresses that Pakistan must do more to against the Al Qaeda and Taliban, or indirectly saying that Osama bin Laden must be handed over.

For the next ten days US waits and sees how Pakistan responds to the threats, but Pakistan acts by burying its head in the sand – see no evil, hear no evil. Obama Administration ups the ante and on April 18 on Pakistan’s Geo TV, AdmMike Mullen said ISI “has a longstanding relationship with the Haqqani Network. That doesn’t mean everybody in the ISI, but it’s there.”
Again, international media had its field day against ISI and its links with Taliban.

After putting pressure on General Kayani, Adm. Mike Mullen meets with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wyne and General Kayani on April 20. Admiral Mullen again demands indirectly that Pakistan needs to help USA in locating Osama bin LadenPakistan’s response was again, “Osama, Who?” Admiral Mullen however, left with another threat that if they came to know about Osama bin Laden‘s location they would go
ahead and take unilateral action. This is the same message which President Obama repeated in his announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death, when he said, “We will take actions in Pakistan, if we knew where he was.”

In response to continued threats from USA, Pakistan starts taking back its air bases from US in an attempt to avoid launching of any operation from its own soil. As a result on April 22 the news appears that Pakistan had taken back Shamsi Airbase from CIA/US forces. While Obama Administration was piling pressure on Pakistan, General Petraeus visited Pakistan on April 26
and met with General Kayani openly asking him to hand over Osama bin Laden, otherwise get ready to face the consequences. Same day Washington also critically attacked Pakistan Army‘s counter-terrorism efforts. General Petraeus left with a clear message that unless Pakistan hands over Osama, US forces would be forced to take action over Pakistani soil.
Pakistani Military knowing that US knew that Osama bin Laden was dead couldn’t understand Obama Administration’s continued stance on capturing Osama bin LadenGeneral Petraeus left with the ultimatum that either Pakistan handed over Osama or US would get him.
Same day meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) is held at Rawalpindi, one week ahead of schedule at the Joint Staff Headquarters. The top brass discussed the Osama issue and decision is reached to work out the Obama’s strategy leading to continuous threats for capturing Osama bin Laden alive, even after knowing that he was dead.

While in Pakistan intelligence community starts using all of its sources to reach to the bottom of US‘ demand of capturing Osama bin Laden. On April 28 President Obama signs General Petraeus’ transfer to CIA and next day signs the orders to attack the Abbottabad compounds. Thus Osama bin Laden’s credit is assured to President Obama.
On 29 April after President Obama signed the orders to “bring back” Osama bin LadenPakistani security agencies get a report that another order had been signed which had authorized US forces to neutralize Pakistan’s nuclear assets, if needed. The report was nothing short of seeing a death angel for the top Pak Military brass.
Seeing the imminent threat, General Kayani tried his last shot when on 30 April 2011 he clearly stated in his Youm-e-Shuhada address: “Pakistan is a peace-loving country and wants friendly relations with other countries and our every step should move towards prosperity of the people. But we will not compromise our dignity and honour for it”. However, it didn’t stop what was about to come 24 hours later.

As night fell on Sunday, 1st May four choppers from a US Afghan base at a low altitude towards its destination in Abbottabad, to the same compound where Osama‘s children were in the hiding. Without any detection courtesy of their latest stealth technology andPakistan‘s outdated technology the choppers continued over the Pakistani territory. Ironically, ten years ago a Pak Air force air commodore had raised concern about the outdated radar technology citing that US or worse India could fly helicopters into the country and take out nuclear installations and in reply he was shown the boot while no upgrades to the systems were made.
Anyway, the four choppers made it to the compound in Abbottabad. It is then that Pak Army was notified that they have a choice. Either face an entire barrage of US choppers attacking Pak nuclear assets or hand over Osama’s body.

In the meanwhile the small gun battle at the Abbottabad compound continued and to give the drama some authenticity the US forces torched one of their own choppers. Pressed for time a Pakistani helicopter flew from Tarbela carrying dead body of Osama bin Ladenwhich was stored in a cold storage there.
While at Abbottabad Pak Army soldiers encircled the entire area around the compound within five minutes of the start of fire fight. The firefight continued for 35 more minutes, waiting for the Pakistani helicopter. Once the Pakistani helicopter reached the compound the three US choppers and the Pakistani helicopter flew towards the Afghan border, this time without the need to fly below the radar detection altitude.

Next day, the world woke up to the news that Osama bin Laden was dead and President Obama had delivered what President Bushand Dick Cheney couldn’t. But the Pak Military brass did not wake up, because they never slept the night before. Last night they had woken to the realization that US could fly under the radar and take out Pakistan’s nuclear assets at any time.

IKRAMULLAH KHAN – ANSWERS KATJU BACK

Katju’s ‘Truth about Pakistan’

March 03, 2013

Had he been a Pakistani citizen, Justice Markandey Katju would have faced Article 6 of the constitution for sedition because what he has written about Pakistan and its Founding Father Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah amounts to treason. His being a foreigner and outside the jurisdiction of local laws, has proved his saving grace. However, after his retirement from his position as an honourable judge in the highly respected Indian judiciary, Justice Katju should not have assumed the role of a citizen free to abuse the freedom of speech like Bal Thakarey who abuses Pakistan and indulges in character assassination of Pakistani leadership as an article of faith.
Justice Katju, according to his statement, is Chairman of the Press Council of India and former judge of the Supreme Court. The institutions to which he belongs cannot escape responsibility for his utterances and keep their eyes closed to the mischief he is creating between the two independent sovereign states which are also members of SAARC and the UN. The sovereignty of Pakistan, which at present happens to be a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, is being questioned. Mr Katju has involved not only the Press Council of India as its chairman but also the UN Security Council with regard to the independent and sovereign status of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
In an article under the title of “The truth about Pakistan” published in The Nation on March 2, 2013, Mr Katju states “I do not believe that there are two nations, there is only one nation, that is India, and Pakistan is part of India. Pakistan was created in pursuance of the wicked British policy of divide and rule and the bogus Two Nation Theory”. The British government has thus been blamed for creating Pakistan through its wicked policy. The Press Council of India should explain whether it owns the statement of its Chairman about Pakistan and its Founder Quaid-i- Azam. The government of India cannot keep its eyes closed to the wild statement of the Chairman of the Press Council of India on vital issues of foreign policy challenging the very basis of the creation of Pakistan i.e. the Two Nation Theory. Similarly, the UN Security Council should take notice of the statement of a judge of the Supreme Court of India. I for one do not take Mr Justice Markandey Katju’s statements as just an unguarded outburst. I regard his article as a “bomb blast” designed to destabilize Pakistan at this critical juncture when it is beset with various internal and external challenges. To quote Mr Katju again about his deep concern over the internal situation in Pakistan, “According to reports, Pakistani cities Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, etc. are rapidly becoming killing fields, with bomb blasts and gun firing a regular occurrence, and ethnic violence between Sunnis and Shias, and persecution of minorities escalating. Nobody knows that when he steps out into the streets of these cities whether or not he will return alive. A beautiful metropolitan city like Karachi is becoming, if it has not already become, a Jurassic Park”. Do I have to tell a retired Judge of Supreme Court of India that his statement is a brazen interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign State?
Many blame India for the above sad state of affairs in Pakistan. The Pakistan foreign office and press representatives bodies, CPNE and APNS, should give a suitable rejoinder to the Indian Press Council and its Chairman.
The space does not allow the narration of the sad saga of dissensions and revolts in a number of states of India that should make a self-respecting Indian hang his head in shame rather than lecture others on democracy and peace. The Indian occupied part of Kashmir is a classic example where brutal suppression is being exercised against the legitimate freedom fighters and independent observers are not allowed to visit. My comment: “Physician, heal thyself.”

The Dream of ALL Hindus

Arif Nizami is now a Stealth Promoter of Akhand Bharat. He is bought off completely by Indian intelligence. This is reflected in the The Nation & The Nation Blog. Two Nation Theory is discarded in the Nation, where Indian Thinkers are brought in as Writers and Columnists to denigrate the Founder of Pakistan and undermine the basis of Pakistan as a Nation of Muslim. Arif Nizami is the force behind this propaganda and along with Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman’s GEO, the Founding of Pakistan is being challenges. Sacrifices of Pakistan Army Soldiers in fighting Tehreek-i-Taliban, a RAW inspired organization, are never discussed. Pakistan is depicted as a dysfunctional nation heading towards economic disaster. If the read the article written by an Indian Judge,it goes to show how bitterly the Indian intellectuals and educated elite wish for Pakistan’s disintegration. But, in doing so they may be cutting his nose to speight his face. It also reflects the venomous nature embedded deep in Hindu psyche which Quaid-i-Azam and other leaders of Pakistan’s Freedom Movement discovered early on. About 1400 years ago, Islam came to destroy idolatry and polytheism. Polytheists are viciously opposed to Islam, because it demolished the basis of their belief.

The Hindus or Polytheists of Arabia opposed Nai-i-Karim (SAW) for introducing Mankind to their True Creator. Today, the forces of darkness espoused in mythology of Hinduism still oppose the ideology of Islam. But, many Muslims due to their financial interests are gravitating towards India and Hinduism, Arif Nizami and The Nation are cheering them on.  In another nation ,it would tantamount to treason and sedition, but in incompetent Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan anything goes.

The truth about Pakistan

“Dekho mujhe jo deeda-e-ibrat nigah ho, Meri suno jo gosh-e-naseehat niyosh hai.”
– Mirza Ghalib

According to reports, Pakistani cities – Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, etc – are rapidly becoming killing fields, with bomb blasts and gun firing a regular occurrence, and ethnic violence between Sunnis and Shias, and persecution of minorities escalating. Nobody knows that when he steps out into the streets of these cities whether or not he will return alive. A beautiful metropolitan city like Karachi is becoming, if it has not already become, a Jurassic Park.
Mr Shamshad Ahmed, in his article, entitled “May You Live Long, Katju!”, published in TheNation on February 26, 2013, has said that the present situation in Pakistan is due to “a failure of governance, not of the nationhood.” I respectfully beg to differ.
In my opinion, the present violent strifes and disturbances in Pakistan are the logical and inevitable result of creating a theocratic state in this subcontinent and, hence, the only solution is the reunification of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh under a strong, secular, modern minded government, which does not tolerate religious extremism and bigotry, whether Hindu or Muslim, and crushes it with an iron hand.
To explain my point, I have to delve into history. As explained in my article, “What is India”, in my blog: justicekatju.blogspot.in (as well as in the video on the website: kgfindia.com), India (in which I include Pakistan) is broadly a country of immigrants like North America. The ancestors of 92 to 93 percent people living today in our subcontinent were not the original inhabitants here, but came from outside, mainly from the northwest (the original inhabitants being the pre-Dravidian tribals). People migrate from uncomfortable areas to comfortable areas, and India was a paradise for agriculture, with level land, fertile soil, plenty of water for irrigation, etc. It is for this reason that India has so much diversity – so many religions, castes, languages, ethnic groups, etc because each group of immigrants brought their own language, religion and customs.
Hence, the only policy that can work in our subcontinent is secularism and equal respect to all communities and sects. This was the policy of the great Emperor Akbar, whom I regard (along with Ashoka) as the greatest ruler the world has ever seen. At a time when the Europeans were massacring each other in the name of religion (Catholics massacring Protestants and vice versa), Akbar, who was far ahead of his times, declared his policy of Suleh-e-Kul, i.e. universal toleration of all religions, and it is because of this policy that the Mughal Empire lasted so long. It was Emperor Akbar who laid the foundation on which the Indian nation is still standing, his policy being continued by Jawaharlal Nehru and his colleagues who gave India a secular constitution.
Up to 1857, there were no communal problems in India; all communal riots and animosity began after 1857. No doubt even before 1857, there were differences between Hindus and Muslims, the Hindus going to temples and the Muslims going to mosques, but there was no animosity. In fact, the Hindus and Muslims used to help each other; Hindus used to participate in Eid celebrations, and Muslims in Holi and Diwali. The Muslim rulers like the Mughals, Nawab of Awadh and Murshidabad, Tipu Sultan, etc were totally secular; they organised Ramlilas, participated in Holi, Diwali, etc. Ghalib’s affectionate letters to his Hindu friends like Munshi Shiv Naraln Aram, Har Gopal Tofta, etc attest to the affection between Hindus and Muslims at that time
In 1857, the ‘Great Mutiny’ broke out in which the Hindus and Muslims jointly fought against the British. This shocked the British government so much that after suppressing the Mutiny, they decided to start the policy of divide and rule (see online “History in the Service of Imperialism” by B.N. Pande). All communal riots began after 1857, artificially engineered by the British authorities. The British collector would secretly call the Hindu Pandit, pay him money, and tell him to speak against Muslims, and similarly he would secretly call the Maulvi, pay him money, and tell him to speak against Hindus. This communal poison was injected into our body politic year after year and decade after decade.
In 1909, the ‘Minto-Morley Reforms’ introduced separate electorates for Hindus and Muslims. The idea was propagated that Hindi is the language of Hindus, while Urdu of Muslims (although Urdu was the common language of all educated people, whether Hindu, Muslim or Sikh up to 1947). All this vicious propaganda resulted in the partition of 1947, which created a fake, artificial theocratic nation called Pakistan.
Nation states arose in Europe around the 15th century because of the rise of modern industry. Modern industry, unlike feudal handicraft industry, requires a big market for its goods and a large area from where it can get raw materials.
The creation of a state based on religion destroys the very basis of a nation, because it cuts off industries from markets and raw materials. British imperialism created India as a big administrative unit. The British policy was to prohibit the growth of heavy industry in India; otherwise, the Indian industry, with its cheap labour, would have become a powerful rival to British industry.
When the British left India, they divided us so that we may remain backward and weak, and not emerge as a modern powerful industrial state (for which we have all the potential). This was the real reason for creating Pakistan.
I submit that Pakistan was doomed from its very inception; firstly, because there is such tremendous diversity in our subcontinent that only secularism can work here and secondly, because a modern nation cannot be based on religion (because this will cut it off from its markets and raw materials).
Mr Shamshad Ahmed has written in an email to me that I should try to bring the two countries closer, instead of challenging the very raison d’etre of Pakistan. I replied that I do not believe that there are two nations, there is only one nation, that is India, and Pakistan is part of India. Pakistan was created in pursuance of the wicked British policy of divide and rule and the bogus Two Nation Theory, whose whole aim was to make Hindus and Muslims fight with each other. I am confident that with time people, both in India and Pakistan, will realise the truth in what I am saying, and India and Pakistan will reunite under a strong, secular government that deals with religious extremism, whether Hindu or Muslim, with an iron hand.
Secularism does not mean that one cannot practice his religion. It means that religion is a private affair, unconnected with the state that will have no religion.
When I meet my Pakistani friends (and I have lots of them), we speak in Hindustani, we look like each other, and feel no difference between ourselves. We were befooled by the Britishers into thinking that we are enemies, but how much longer must we remain befooled? How much longer must blood flow in religious violence in Quetta, Karachi, Gujarat, etc.
Mr Shamshad Ahmed wrote in his email to me that he doubted whether any Pakistani newspaper would publish my article challenging the very existence of Pakistan. I replied that I did not care whether it would be published or not, but I will not deviate from what I believe is the truth. In Sanskrit, there is a saying, “Satyamev Jayate”, which means “truth ultimately triumphs”. And as Nietzsche said in “Thus Spake Zarathustra”: “What matter about thyself, Zarathustra! Say thy word and break into pieces!”
