Disastrous decade of democracy sorry state of the state-Al Pakistan

Thug life is a term used by gangsters to glorify their law breaking, heady crime sprees.

Nothing describes the misrule of two successive, so called democratically elected governments in the unstable, underdeveloped 200 million strong south Asian state of Pakistan.

How thieves, plunderers and freebooters came to rule this nuclear armed state is a sad tale in itself.

Ruled by military General Pervez Musharraf who took over in a military coup in 1999, the country became a close US ally after 9/11 and witnessed an era of growth and stability under military rule.

However when Musharaf reached his limits of flexibility, it was decided by the US and British to force him bring back the two tainted, condemned political leaders in exile and to wash away all their sins under a dubious order in the name of national reconciliation.

As in the Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, there was also a hungry, eager, more flexible General waiting in the Wings to replace him, and Deputy Chief Kayani used Military intelligence and a judges restoration movement to cripple the erstwhile strongman, now out of favor with the US.

A final thumbs down from the US Ambassador compelled Musharraf to resign and after the mysterious, unsolved murder of Benazir Bhutto, her thuggish husband, the upstart, criminal uneducated, corrupt and much reviled Asif Zardari came to power.

The deal with the West was that we bring you back, wash away your past sins and you squeeze the Army.

The game began and new Chief Kayani turned a blind eye, as he had brought the devil to sup at the table and was also busy improving his impoverished families financial condition.

So well did this team work that General Kayani got an unprecedented 3 year second term, Zardari became a billionaire, Kayani from rags to millionaire and the country went to the dogs.

The US with its two boys in place, in charge of the Presidency and military, violated Pakistani sovereignty and physical boundaries at will, using drones, choppers, covert assassin’s and whatever they chose.

As per the unholy charter of kleptocracy, Sharif kept silent during Zardari’s plunder and he returned the favor after Sharif took over in 2013

Simple math, over invoice $ 50 billion of Chinese funded projects-whether needed or not- by ten percent, sign sovereign guarantees, leave future generations to pay off horrifying debts and pocket 5% off the top!

Walk away with a cool $ 2.5 billion dollars.Astonishingly simple as it is audacious.

Where Zardari was a street thug, looting millions, for ing neighbors to sell their properties on the cheap, the plunderers from Punjab, whose father made pots and cooking utensils with his bare hands are now certified dollar billionaires thanks to massive bank defaults, and international cuts commissions and kickbacks.

Wow! Wonderful, just one mistake…Sharif, egged on by vicious anti military Advisers like Junior Minister for Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatimi, kept on targeting the by now restive and powerful Pakistan military.

The leakage of information pertaining to thousands of offshore companies incorporated in Panama signalled the end for the strangely absent Sharif regime.

Perhaps the most corrupt and worse administered government in the history of Pakistan..certainly the most hypocritical.

Destroying the civil service structure, promoting nepotism, turning state servants especially in the Punjab into glorified pimps and facilitators.

One poor martied lady was famously peddled by her husband out to Sharif, then his younger brother and in turn was rewarded with top administrative positions for his immoral shamelessness.

Functioning without statutory, mandated positions such as State Ombudsman, National Tax Collector, Head of the Audit Service and even without the Governor of the State Bank.

Burgeoning debt, increasingly hostile borders, declining exports, a dysfunctional government, falling stock market and collapsing currency could not shake Sharif out of his stupor.

On the ropes, with his family corruption the main story in every paper, every channel and on social media, he chose to plod on shamelessly, trying one corrupt lawyer after another in a futile attempt to cover his tracks.

Described as a sicilian mafiosi by the worthy judges of the top constitutional court, Sharif scraped the bottom of the barrel, hiring the immoral Raja Salman Akram, known to have defended Zardaris drug dealing Prime Minister, all to no avail.

Functioning without a Foreign minister for four years, and appointing idiots as top envoys, the joke is on Sharif as he is now left with no friends to bail him out as before.

His Saudi patrons distanced themselves from their pet poodle after Sharif was unable to prevail upon his military who very sensibly refused to go and fight alongside Saudi troops in Yemen.

Indians and Americans have realised he cannot dominate his military and the Turks and Chinese know him and his tribe as crooked, slimy money grabbers.

Despite holding office for years, Sharif has paid no attention to healthcare, education, rule of law or job creation, focusing purely on shady, unnecessary projects providing easy kickbacks.

Now decades of money laundering, defaulted bank loans and millions in off shore accounts and overseas properties stand to be exposed for what they are, the loot and plunder from 190 million poor uneducated helpless souls who are forced to sell or kill their children due to lack of justice, poverty and a gloomy future.

The question is how will things unfold? Will the shameless, immoral, hypocritical kleptocrats escape yet again to lick their wounds and enjoy their boots abroad or shall they deservedly meet the fate of another erstwhile billionaire, the late unlamented Colonel Qaddafi who died bloodied and screaming in the street as his engeful subjects beat him to death?

If wishes were horses, beggars would be…   Haider Mehdi’s Perspectives

If wishes were horses, beggars would be…

By Syed Haider Raza Mehdi

Nawaz Sharif’s Act of Treason: Launching an undeclared War on Pakistan Armed Forces with the backing of US & India
I think it’s getting close to one Qabar and two bodies.

Nawaz’s aim is political martyrdom.

As long as he controls the party he will continue to create chaos.

But, as history tells us, this great land of Punjab knows which side of the paratha has more ghee.

And with each passing day as the power struggles between the brothers Sharifs and other groups within PMLN  intensify we will see his grip loosening.

This will make Nawaz and especially Princess Tubelight Maryam Safdar, even more desperate and they will resort to desperate measures. To understand Nawaz one only has to recall his instructions to Sohail Zia Butt many years ago.

“Butt saheb Thoray jeean golian sholian….thay Thora jiaa khoon kharrapa!”

Therefore, I have a feeling of great disquiet. A sense of, God Forbid, a major urban terrorist attack and or some highly potent acts of violence. Perhaps even attempts at assassinations. These could be across, political, ethnic, sectarian and religious divides to create more chaos and disorder.

Some orchestrated by PMLN and some by our “friendly” neighbours, India and Afghanistan and our Godfather, the USA.

The last mentioned, continously attempting to keep Pakistan unstable, through political unrest and economic meltdown, create civil unrest, weaken Pakistan and achieve their ultimate objective of defanging us of our nuclear assets.

Iran will likely not try anything funny because a stable Pakistan is in their interest. But some of our other “Middle Eastern brothers” especially Saudi Arabia, will silently support this subversion of Pakistan now no longer expecting much from us.  They are very angry at us for not supporting their Yemen misadventure and helping them kill over 20,000 Yemeni women cholden and civilians. They are also extremely upset that we didn’t join their mad sectarian war against Iran sponsored by the Trumpeter from the USA, despite the very secretive command of a phantom anti terror coslition headed by an extremely uncomfortable Raheel Sharif. And lastly not siding with them against their Qatari misfire.

Saudi Arabia has now openly allied itself to the USA, India, Israel, UAE, Egypt, Regional bloc in direct opposition to the Chinese, Russian, Pakistani and Iranian bloc.

So major geo political realignments driven by selfish national Interests, which must always reign supreme, have changed our relationship with Saudi Arabia.

The same goes for the UAE, which is now also very closely allied to Israel. UAE faces significant economic challenges and competition from CPEC and Gawader and now Qatar. So I don’t see them shedding any tears to see a weak and on its knees, Pakistan.

These anti Pakistan external forces will also support the PMLN  in creating major chaos within to serve their own interests and not out of any love lost for Nawaz.

Nawaz has clearly announced an “undeclared” all out war against the Army, with his recently acquired “Nazriaathee” dogma. He hopes to goad and force the Army into some kind of action. But one sincerely hopes that the Army does not fall into this trap.

But one does hope and pray they also provide full support to the Supreme Court and investigators in doing their jobs. This is a sad reality.  But in a Nation of Mafia Dons, with an ex PM your biggest, this support is critical.

Today only Imran, the Supreme Court, and the Army are the three internal saving graces. China being the one major external one.

In my opinion, an ideal scenario given the current environment and without any extra constitutional steps would constitute the following outcomes.

1. NAB references against Nawaz and family to be filed ASAP.
2. Irfan Mangi as DG to head investigation
3. Quick trial and conviction of Nawaz and family. Jail.  Seizure of assets and lifetime disqualification. The evidence is all there. And conviction and lifetime disqualification for others, especially Ishaq Dar.
4. NAB reference against PM Abbasi for LNG. Trial, lifetime disqualification, conviction and Jail.
5. Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah Model Town trial followed by Conviction.  Disqualification and jail.
6. Zaradari NAB references. Trial. Disqualification, Conviction and Jail. Same for Faryal Talpur.
7. Census based demarcation and remarcation of election constituencies.
8. Changes of heads of NAB, FBR, FIA, State Bank, SECP.
9. New constituted Election Commission comprising competent and honest professionals without biases.
10. Trial and conviction of Zafar Hijazi of SECP and Saeed Ahmed of NBP with extremely harsh and exemplary punishment to send a message to senior bureaucrats that they can, and will be taken to task if they do the bidding of their political masters by indulging in illegal and criminal acts.

All above through constitutional petitions filed with the Supreme Court.

That’s my ideal scenario. But if wishes were horses, beggars would be kings.

Of course many will target this as an attempt to remove a “legally and democratically” elected PM through a judicial coup.

The answer to this is simple.  If your Prime Minister and family and your Finance Minister and current PM are criminals, crooks, money launderers, irrespective of how they were elected, they must face the due process of law.

And yes this process must go on to catch others as the judicial process gains strength and investigators are able to do their jobs without fear.

Therefore, in my opinion, this is the only way for us progress, positively.

The people of Pakistan have another golden opportunity to cleanse the Augean stables.

We owe it to all our brave sons and daughters, military and civilians who gave the ultimate sacrifice for Pakistan and to our future generations to fix ourselves, once and for all.

We must not lose this opportunity to rid us of the cancer of Nawaz and Zaradari and all they represent and everything that’s corrupt in any institution, civilian or military.

Let’s not forget that Our Flag flutters not because of the breeze, but the dying breaths of its brave men and women who died, defending it.

New-NBP-chief-rewarded-for-sanctioning-Rs500m-to-the-Sharifs'-sugar-mill-in-1990s-salman-shahbaz-sharif-ahmed-iqbal-ashraf

By Sarmad Ali

Islamabad, Jan 28 (Pak Destiny) The Nawaz Sharif government has rewarded Syed Ahmad Iqbal Ashraf by appointing him president of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for his services – sanctioning Rs500 million loan to the Ramzan Sugar Mill of the Sharifs in 1990s.
“Ahsraf has also been given a task to settle down Rs3billion loan of Itifaq Foundry which it had taken from the NBP in the 1990s,” the sources said.
The sources said Ashraf was the regional director of NBP when he had sanctioned Rs500 million to the Sharif’s Ramzan Sugar Mill when they needed money. Salman Shahbaz had asked his uncle to appoint Ashraf.
A chartered accountant by profession, Ahmad Iqbal is a brother of Dr Nasim Ashraf, the former minister for National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and president of Pakistan Cricket Board in General Musharraf’s government. Nasim Ashraf brought in Musadak Malik, a big time crook, whose connections with a  super power are highly suspicious. After Nasim Ashraf and Iqbal Ashraf absconded from Pakistan, they left their master-mind Musadak Malik to be an Advisor to Nawaz Sharif. This unemployed US Pharmacist, still a US Citizen has a gift of gab and can through use of this gift he wiggled his way  into Nawaz Sharif’s Cabinet as an his Advisor.
He replaced Dr Asif Brohi who had three years to reach the retirement age.
A total of 51 candidates had applied for the post. The selection was originally to be made by a high-powered commission comprising Federal Tax Ombudsman and two academicians from Agha Khan University and Lahore University of Management Sciences. – Pak Destiny

Is the ‘fix’ in?

Is the ‘fix’ in?

By

Khawaja Daud Mazhar,

The Nation

Having endured all the barbs of the last two months or more, the PML-N ‘darbaris’ are again out in full swing daily, claiming how their erstwhile, thoroughly corrupt and in any other countries court of law who would have been declared a notorious and habitually corrupt person, is going to get a ‘clean chit’ from our highest court.

While it is almost mind boggling how they could lay claim to such a grossly asinine decision even before it has been announced, it would not be far from reality as they, the government of the day, has all the tools in their toolbox to snoop into the highest courts computers to find out what kind of decision is being penned down by the judges.

One has heard numerous talking heads on the ‘idiot box’ suddenly changing their ‘considered’ opinions and reputable columnists penning the same mantra in their recent columns in the newspapers, all this leaving those with just a little bit sanity, scratching their heads till what little hair left have fallen down in a heap next to their chairs.

What has changed so drastically within a few days? Yes, the COAS has been to Saudi Arabia and Qatar recently and Nawaz Sharif has visited Turkey for a sumptuous dinner. Were there messages delivered to the army top brass on these visits to let a mafia continue pillaging the state coffers without any hindrance? Was PM Nawaz Sharif given the ‘good’ news at that dinner in Qatar? And so relieved was he by this ‘bolt of lightening’, that he could not help but sing an Indian song in Karachi today?

For those still trying to figure out the guilt or innocence of the third time PM, one only needs to ask them to go through the final presentation of Sheikh Rashid in the Supreme Court. For any ordinary citizen of the country, the humiliation that Mr. Nawaz Sharif has suffered during this Panama gate trial would have been a ‘wall of shame’, but he goes and whistles a tune in public.

The multiple layers of lies and distortions meted out by the cabal of darbaris daily in defense of their ‘man’, would stun the wits out of those with the thickest of skins, but yet they continue again with a fervor unmatched for the last two weeks. Within this maelstrom of mendacity lies an urgent will to change the narrative, both of the judges and the establishment.

The question that begs to be answered, for if these rumblings of a ‘clean chit’ are to be believed is, what transpired in the last two weeks? Have the Honourable Judges of the Supreme Court been influenced, coerced or threatened to change their opinions contrary to their remarks in reaction to the incredulous presentations by the lawyers of the Sharif family during the hearings, or has the highest judiciary of this land, once again decided to have their reputations further tarnished?

It is also a given that the superior judges have not listened to anyone in the past, sparing the Sharif family, except for The Boots. As one retired Chief Justice told the writer almost two decades ago while watching a cricket match at Gaddafi Stadium, “When giving an important decision, our ears are pointed towards the ground for the echo of the boots”. So is one to believe that those in whose nursery this plant of the Sharif political dynasty was nurtured, have once again swiveled their baton to save him from a difficult judgment?

If those with Red Stripes have actually played a dirty game with the people of this country and their day of reckoning awaits them in the afterworld for sure. No Generals, nor the Supreme Court Judges can play with the destiny of this country any longer. That we have gained a reputation both as a banana republic and a slave of the West, is sure because our institutions have lately been shirking from their oath.

What is making our reputable armed forces the butt of jokes in the eyes of the nation and of those abroad, that they have not had the guts to catch and punish those who deliberately and shamelessly disgraced them through ‘Dawn Leaks’? Any surprise that there is evidence and a conviction all over the land that it was none other than the ‘queen’ in waiting who masterminded the whole affair? The Chief is questioned at his regular visits to the “formations” about the final results of the inquiry into this ugly and despicable affair, yet he puts forth nothing but excuses and promises of a report soon. How has it affected the morale of those young officers who take pride in the uniform that they wear as to how rubbery kneed their Chief is?

For those wearing the robes in that ‘House on the Constitution Avenue’ and who are thus referred to by mortals appearing in front of them as “My Lords”, let this be a reminder that upon your shoulders and in your pens, rests at stake the future of Pakistan. Will it continue to be ruled by corrupt and dishonest people who are to be allowed free licence to pillage its resources for their personal will, while their 20 crore subjects are walking around without any hope or future, or will this be the decision that will put our nation back on the moral footings that our leader Mohammad Ali Jinnah strived for.

The hour is near, and My Lords, you can either ‘Go gently into this great night or you can Go Boldly into this great night’. The people of Pakistan are praying that you choose to ‘Go Boldly’.
